How to Remove Oil Stains from Concrete

Don’t you just hate it when your concrete is all beautiful and new, then your car ‘has its period’ all over it? Gahhhhhhh!

Not only that, but if you are renting a property, Property Managers get really narky about any stains on the concrete outdoor area or driveway – and can even penalise you by taking part of your bond money!

But we have the solution on how to remove oil stains from concrete – and it is easier than you might think!

• 4 litres of boiling water
• 1 teaspoon of washing up liquid (I really like Morning Fresh – but use whatever you have on hand!)
• 4 tablespoons bicarbonate of soda

1. First of all – like any stain, the sooner you tend to it, the easier it will be to get the stain out successfully. If the stain is still a little oily, then sprinkle the bicarbonate of soda on top, and allow it to sit overnight to absorb the oil. If you are tending to an old oil stain, don’t worry about this step.
2. Remove the layer of bicarb with a dry cloth.
3. Wet the oil with the boiling water (be careful!) and add the washing up liquid.  Give it a scrub with a scrubbing brush.
4. Wash down with boiling water.  Repeat if the stain is deep and still there.
