How to Keep Your Kitchen Organisation on Trend

The kitchen really is the heart of the home, so it pays to keep it clean and organized.

I feel like I spend more time every day in the kitchen than anywhere else in the house, and if you don’t have a good system for organizing your kitchen it’s easy for the mess to spiral out of control.

These are a few of my tips for keeping your kitchen clean and organized.

One of the easiest ways to keep the kitchen organized is to match similar items together. I know, it sounds obvious enough, but go through your kitchen and there’s a good chance you’ll be able to move some things around to make your kitchen space more efficient. Consider getting some extra storage tools for space that you don’t use often.

For example, a magnetic knife rack (pictured) gets all the knives out of reach from little fingers, looks decorative and is very functional!

Similar to that, throw up some extra shelves or hooks on the walls if you have the space.

Putting up a hanging rack over your stove for all of your pots and pans can leave an entire cupboard empty for other kitchen items, and a few hanging baskets can hold onions, potatoes, garlic, fruit, or any other produce that doesn’t go right into the fridge.

By doing this, you can keep your counters tidy and clear so that you don’t have to move things around every time you need space for your chopping board.

Keep your most used utensils right out on the counter, but keep it minimal. There’s a very find line between what constitutes display and what turns into clutter.

Tidy up your drawers too and keep everything contained to a drawer with similar items. I always had two drawers half full of odds and ends, and after I cleaned those out I had space for all the dish towels and aprons that normally just sat out on the counter.

pantryIn the pantry or food cupboards, organize the way you would see the food in a grocery store. All of the most used food (pantry staples)  are right at eye level, the ones you use fairly often go above that, and rarely used food gets put on the bottom.

Finally, organize based on location. Where do you use all your pots and pans? On the stove! Keep them within arms reach.

The same goes for teatowels store them right near the sink so you don’t have to run across the kitchen to get a new one.

Your cookbooks should be away from the oven and sink so they don’t get damaged, and the dish cupboards should be above or beside the dishwasher.

How do you organize your kitchen?  Can you do it better?
