7 of The Best Apps Every Busy Mum Needs

Whether you’re a first time mum or a mother of three kids, it’s still hard work. We’re lucky to be born in the age of the internet. Lots of things to distract our stressed mind!

And thank heavens for apps that help us save time and manage our finances better. Ultimately, these apps will help us mums save our sanity!

There are different apps for different purposes and these are the ones that helped me become much more efficient and organised.

1. Acorns – Invest Spare Change

Acorns has been getting positive reviews and that’s because it has made people extremely interested into investing.

Acorns encourages everyone to invest their spare change using the round-ups feature. It’s incredibly useful for mums like you and me! When paying for groceries, paying bills or availing services, the app takes your linked card and rounds up the fee to the nearest dollar. The change gets added to your investment account and Acorn invests the fund for you on what they call smart portfolios. Your investments will grow slowly but it’s not like you exerted a lot of effort, right?

I like to forget about it and just go on about paying bills, buying groceries, etc. and after some time I check and see my spare change grow. It’s especially useful for those just starting to invest, as well.

2. Stocard

You know how forgetful we mums are, right? Some days I just rush out and forget to bring my loyalty and discount cards. The Stocard app is brilliant for when I’m going to purchase something but forgot to bring my cards. It lets you scan your cards and when your cards are uploaded to the app, all you have to do is to present it at the cash register so you can avail the discount or get the loyalty points for your purchase. After some time I decided to ditch the cards and bring my phone with me instead. So convenient!

3. IMDb

Looking for great movies to watch? The IMDb app has the most comprehensive movie database out of all the movie apps out there. It’s the most simple and user-friendly one I’ve used so far. It has everything you need to find out about a movie, tv series, etc. Check out movie reviews, cast, trivia, trailers and more! I only get an hour (maximum) of me time and I don’t wanna waste it watching a disappointing and boring movie. I look through IMDb before I start watching and it saves me time!

It’s not like I’ll die without movies, but as a mum, I don’t really get much luxury. Watching movies and tv series keep my sanity intact. It makes motherhood less daunting. Is anyone with me?

4. Spotify

Laundry, cleaning, folding and dropping the kids off at school – all these chores are better with music, don’t you think? Spotify is the guy (app) for that. It’s best music streaming app for me. It has millions of songs available, awesome playlists and has podcasts and videos, too! You can even listen to playlists offline by downloading while you’re connected to internet.

5. Couch to 5K

Couch to 5k is an amazing fitness app for beginners. It helps you gradually start a running routine that is realistic and doable. The first week consists of running for a few minutes with rest in between. The time and intensity increases as the days go by allowing your body to adjust. The app lets you schedule the time and route for your routine so you’ll feel really organised which makes you want to finish your program.

6. Express Plus Centrelink

The Centrelink app is probably the most useful for parents out of all the apps in this list. The app lets you do Centrelink business using a myGov account linked to your Centrelink account. You don’t need to go to the office anymore.  For minor transactions like checking payments, updating personal/household income, accessing letters, uploading documents and the like, you can just use the app. Isn’t it convenient?

7. Wish

The app is my go-to when I’m looking for cheap, affordable items. I usually watch out for massive sales and buy some products then stock them up for Christmas that year. There are a thousand selections and really affordable, check it out! The catch though, is that the items take quite long to arrive. But if you’re not doing last-minute shopping, why not? If you have little cash and lots of time, then go check out the Wish app.
