We went on a trip to the Gold Coast with my family and boy oh boy! We had sooooooooo much fun!
We drove from the Sunshine Coast to ‘Australia’s favourite playground’ the Gold Coast on Friday. It was a short two and a half hour road trip and we checked into the Kirra Beach Apartments. We were welcomed by their super friendly staff and into a beautiful three-bedroom self contained unit overlooking the beach, the pool and the spa! The apartment had everything my family needed. Two Bathroom (a total must!!!), large kitchen, dining and lounge room and cable TV (So Hubby didn’t miss the NRL Semi-Finals lol). It’s just the first day of our weekend vacay and we’re already so delighted. This is going to be our home for the next few days….
We headed straight to the pool to cool off and and have a splash.
With all the swimming and afternoon RnR we did our tummies were starting to rumble. Dinner time it is! We had a dinner booked at Baskk at Kirra Point. The interior was so my scene, a really cool, hip beachy island scene with super cool music vibes. The feels were definitely inspired with eating while basking in the sun – A total play on it’s name Baskk. With hungry kids in toe we ordered a variety of entree’s and shared plates BBQ style. The food was sooooooo good, and as a frequent over orderer we even took some home too! The service at Baskk was second to none. The Baskk staff are defs on their A-game. We went back to our room beyone full and ready to slip into a food coma.
Day 2 of our family vacay!
We had breakfast at Dune Cafe at Currumbin Creek. It’s a very popular spot with a constant flow of peeps stopping in for their weekend coffee with friends or a delish brekky with the family (they also catered to the dog lovers who are able to bring them along too). Set amongst a beautiful park and Currumbin beach/cove, Dune Cafe was the perfect spot to fuel up for our busy day ahead!
After the hearty breakfast we headed to the Swell Sculpture Festival. There were loads of uber talented artists showcasing their art along the beach and grassy esplanade. The kids had fun looking at and exploring the sculptures and interacting with the pop arts. We had such a great time as a family. We were just strolling on the beach and there was so much to feed our eyes with. The weather was on point and it was so great to see so many families out and about doing the same thing.
We then decided to go back to the apartment for…. yes you guessed it.. pool time and a little rest for baby Sophie!
True to form, after swimming, we had worked up an appitite so we headed a short distance to Currumbin Vikings SLSC. Hand to Heart Hubby said ” This was the BEST steak I have ever had”. It was a super busy but you could tell it always was, because the staff were so onto it! But even with scores of people, the view of Currumbin Beach and the Swell Sculpture Festival looked amazeballs right from the comfort of our table.
After lunch we were off to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary to explore the grounds and a spot of animal watching and interacting. We fed and patted kangaroos and emus, scoped out reptiles like snakes (from a distance, of course!) took in an awesome Aboriginal Dance Show and also had a play at their brand new water splash park that the kids loved.
We headed back to our apartment to chill out for a couple of hours. While the kids chilled inside Hubby and I sat on the balcony with a glass of wine each and were delighted with a pod of whales breaching and playing in the water just infront of our unit!
After the jam packed fun-filled day, we had Dinner at The Collective – a dining paradise, indeed! It is a foodie’s dream (like me) come true. You can choose from American, Italian, Asian, Mexican and contemporary Australian cuisine. We all picked something different to share. You are given a cool little tablet to order from and I could not beIieve how quickly our meals got to our table. It’s without a doubt my new favourite restaurant. The Atmosphere was buzzing and their service was awesome.
After dinner we went back to our Kirra Beach apartment where we all passed out after a long day!
Day 3 (last Day) of our Family Vaycay!
Yep, it’s Sunday and I am already regretting that we only stayed here for 3 days! We packed up the apartment( this took a minute because I am a total over packer – It’s better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it, right???) We loaded up the car and ventured out for brekky at Dust Temple. It’s a cafe/art shop (with mini sculptures from the Swell Scultpure Festival) and upon entering, there’s something about it that’s so calm and relaxing. Their service was amazing and we were so happy to have had breakfast there on our last day. I would go back again and again so tell all your friends! PS. They gave us the most scruptous little treats for our trip home too. How awesome is that?
