7 Fun Family Activities You Can do at Christmas Time!

Christmas is fast approaching which means you are most likely in full time stress mode planning the perfect Christmas dinner and looking for the right gifts for your family and friends.

While Christmas is definitely the time to shop, to spend and to stress, there are plenty of great things about it, too. Don’t forget about all the fun-filled family activities that are offered around Christmas, all of them free (besides the fuel that you may spend getting there and back).

We have some great ideas for the different family Christmas activities you can do at Christmas time:

1. Sing Christmas Carols

This can be loads of fun! Drag out your old Christmas CDs and put them on one evening and sing some Christmas carols with the kids!

2. Watch Christmas Movies

There’s nothing better than sitting down with the kids and watching some old Christmas movies. You can go really old school and watch something like “Miracle on 34th Street” or something more modern like “Home Alone” or “The Santa Claus“…and then there’s “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” for when the kids have gone to bed!

3. Decorate the Tree

This is our family’s favourite Christmas activity. Involve the kids in all aspects, from buying the tree or putting together the artificial one to selecting the right ornaments for each spot on the tree, to putting the star on top, to plugging the lights in once you are done. Decorating the tree can take a few minutes or several hours depending on how you decorate it. So, grab a bottle of red wine for you and hubby and some special Christmas juice for the kids and make an evening of it.

4. Put Up Christmas Lights

Another great way to spend the afternoon is putting lights on the outside of your home. While it can cost you in electricity and in the lights, it is worth it for many families. I have noticed that a lot of the lights you can get are solar, so no power point needed outside. Make sure you check if they are inside or outside lights first, and you need to have the time and patience to actually put the lights around the house, which means you will need a handyman who is willing to get on the roof or up on a ladder. If you are not willing to do this, then you can decorate some of the trees in your front yard, which you should be able to reach without doing any heavy climbing.
