Baby Names – so hot right now. But who is the leader for 2014? And who else made the Top 100 so far? McCrindle have put out their half yearly report discussing the trends and top Australian baby names of 2014. This is a great list to read through if you are pregnant and concerned about naming bub something “too trendy” or if you want to see what other parents are naming their bubs.
Any surprises on there?
Does your baby’s name make the list? Tell us in the comments below, what number are your kid’s names (if they made it). Mine are 18 and 84.
Oliver and Charlotte Take the Lead
Oliver pulls out the big guns and nabs the top spot for the first time in Australia’s history, pushing the front runner, William, into the number two spot. Charlotte, on the other hand, was the list topper in 2013 and doesn’t seem to be slowing down.
Some of the new names to join the list this year include Louis, Nathaniel, Felix, Aaron, Lewis, Parker, Jett, and Seth. For girls, some of the newbies include Penelope, Ayla, Harriet, Daisy, Elsie, Indie, Pippa, Indigo, Nevaeh, Payton, and Ariana.
Then there are the trending baby names which are making waves and moving up significantly in the Top 100 List. These include Ryder, Hudson and Lincoln for boys and Eloise, Lillian and Evelyn for girls.
The Royal Trend
Another interesting thing that McCrindle points out in their bi-yearly report is the rise in Royal names. Of course, there is William and George, but we’ve also got Alexander, Louis, Catherine, Elizabeth, Alice, Edward and Henry.
So, is the 2014 Top Baby Names in Australia as you expect? Where does your baby rank? And what factors played a role in making your baby name decision? Was she named after a television series character? Was he named after a Royal? Was she named after your mum? Or perhaps your grandpa? Tell us in the comments below – we love a good baby name story!!
