I went to the opening show of the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) School of Rock Musical on July 12, 2019 and to be honest, I wasn’t overly excited to be going.
It was the first time I had ever been to see a musical. Of course, prior to going I was thinking of so many other ways to spend my Saturday. I don’t consider myself a fan of musicals but I went and I obliged because it was a ‘mum and me date’.
We arrived at the Lyric Theatre, at QPAC a little early so we wandered around, purchased our snacks and picked up our tickets from the Box Office. We headed in and found our seats, the theatre was full of people and there was a buzz of excitement in the air. I couldn’t believe how many people had come along to see the show. Big groups, small groups, Mums, Dads, Kids, Grandparents and yes… Teenagers like me!
I had watched and enjoyed the School of Rock movie as a kid, so I already had the gist of the story line.
That Dewey Finn guy was sooooo funny. From the opening line the show was packed full of comedy, everyone was laughing from the get go… even me! The cast was so full of energy, the kids nailed it on stage. Their confidence and talent was inspiring, and the fact that all singing and jamming on the instruments was live on stage was even more impressive.
I have to be honest mum and I were still belting out the School of Rock tunes on the way home….Ooooooh La La La!
I really liked the musical and I can honestly say that it exceeded all of my expectations. It was a super fun mum-and-me date. I would definitely watch another musical if it was half as enjoyable as the School of Rock Musical was. I highly recommend that kids and teens of all ages head to QPAC and check it out!!!
Thank you QPAC for the awesome experience!
