Child stars usually leave the entertainment business after having spent their childhood in the spotlight. Fame barely lasts forever as most would’ve expected. In fact, it’s relatively tougher on the former child stars.

There are some child stars who’ve grown up to be among the gorgeous celebrity masses, and then there are those who have not coped too well with fame.

 

1. Danica McKellar

Danica is a mathematician, author, actor, and education advocate. She was born in California and moved to Los Angeles when she was 8 years old. Her mother worked as a home-maker, while her father was a real estate developer. McKellar and her sister, Crystal, both maintained acting careers as kids, but both also prioritised good education.

She starred in ‘The Wonder Years’ as Winnie Cooper from 1988 to 1993. Amazingly, she was selected from hundreds of kids who had auditions, even beating her very own sister to the role. Once the show ended, Danica did various guest starring role and has played parts in numerous films, including ‘Good Neighbor’ (2001), ‘Sex and the Teenage Mind’ (2002), ‘Reality School’ (2002) and ‘Raising Genius’ (2004).

She posed for the Stuff Magazine in 2004 after she was voted as the ’90s star that readers most wished to see in lingerie! More recently, Danica participated in the 18th season of the US ‘Dancing With The Stars’, coming in 6th place.

McKellar has a Mathematics degree and has written 4 books which encourage young girls to have a passion for maths. The 4 books include: ‘Kiss My Math’, ‘Math Doesn’t Suck’, ‘Girls Get Curves (Geometry Takes Shape)’ and ‘Hot X: Algebra Exposed’.

Danica married Mike Verta, a composer, in La Jolla, on March 22, 2009. The couple had been dating since 2001. They had their first child in 2010, a son named Draco. Later in June 2012, Danica filed for divorce, and the dissolution became final in 2013. She was engaged to Scott Sveslosky on July, 2014. The two were married in Kauai, Hawaii, on November, 2014.

Kate Maberly, an English actress, made her film debut in ‘The Secret Garden’ in 1993 as Mary Lennox. At the time, she was aged 11, and this role jump-started her acting career. She went on to play roles in ‘Finding Neverland’ and ‘Gulliver’s Travels’, among many others.

She’s a talented musician as well, having attended the London’s Trinity College of Music, where she graduated with a Joint Honour’s Degree in Piano-and-Cello Performance in 2004. She has made appearances in theatre, television, film and radio. Her first internationally acclaimed performance paved way for several subsequent top roles, including Dinah Bellman in ‘The Langoliers’, Ira in ‘Friendship’s Field’ and Vanessa in ‘Mothertime’. She appeared in 2 feature films in 2007, ‘Popcorn’ and ‘Like Minds’.

She has also performed several voice-overs for ‘The Braniff Pages’ (2001) and ‘Ordynek’ (2000). In addition, she has completed various radio works for BBC-Radio 4, including ‘A Certain Smile’, ‘National Velvet’ and ‘The Dorabella Variation’. Her narration of ‘Catherine Called Birdy’, authored by Karen Cushman, was awarded the Audie in 1995. She’s currently directing a film adaptation of ‘The Forest of Hands, and Teeth’ which is eagerly expected in the coming year.
