13 Bizarre Fan Theories about Kids Movies

There are so many incredible fan theories about children’s movies.

There are some that are plausible, others require a real stretch of imagination! Here are 13 of my favourites.  

1. Toy Story 2

We meet Jessie in Toy Story 2 and find out that her old owner, Emily, had neglected her for years before tossing her into a donation bin. There’s a theory that Emily is actually Andy’s mum. The most convincing “evidence” is that Andy’s old red hat looks like a larger version of Jessie’s, and from a flashback we know that Emily had a hat just like it. So maybe the hat is a hand-me-down from Andy’s mum.

2. Sid from Toy Story

In the first Toy Story movie, Sid is a troubled boy who tortures his toys. In Toy Story 3, it appears that Sid has become a garbage man – he wears the same black t-shirt with a white skull. Throughout the three movies, Sid is still the only person to have witnessed toys actually coming to life, so the fan theory posits that Sid has become a garbage man in order to save discarded toys.

3. Frozen, Tangled (Rupunzel), The Little Mermaid and Tarzan are all in the same universe

This fan theory can be broken down into three parts. In Frozen, Elsa and Anna’s parents die in a shipwreck. Fans have suggested that the King and Queen were on their way to the wedding of Rupunzel and Flynn. The theory continues that the sunken ship in the Little Mermaid, is no other than the one Elsa and Anna’s parents were on. Fans have also speculated that Elsa and Anna’s parents didn’t die, but in fact, got stranded on an island and had a baby boy – Tarzan!  

4. Peter Pan

This theory about Peter Pan is that he is an angel who appears before dying kids and makes sure to fly them off safely to heaven, or what he calls Neverland. The reason why the kids there never age is because they are all dead. This fan theory actually makes sense as in the original tale of Peter Pan, it’s thought that Peter Pan murders lost boys before they can get too old.
