5 Wellness Resolutions for Mums That Are Easy to Achieve

As busy women and mums, it can be to find some ‘me time’ in your days amidst juggling the competing demands of your partner, offspring, and family dog.

So if the furthest you’ve progressed with new year’s resolutions for 2016 is to remember to take out the bins every Thursday, you’re forgiven. But, at the risk of sounding preachy, it is important to spend at least a little time looking after numero uno, to make sure you’re at your healthiest and happiest (and ready to take on everything life throws at you). To get you started, here’s a handful of wellness resolutions for mums that are easy-as-pie to stick to.

1. Drink more water

Are you getting your two litres? I didn’t think so”¦ Staying well hydrated is not only key for healthy functioning of your organs, it’s the quickest path to clear, glowing skin. You might not have the time (or coin) to get a monthly facial, but anyone can drink more water. It’s free, and it’s right there in front of you, all day, every day.

If you find plain tap (or, ideally, filtered) water boring, squeeze in some lemon or lime for a bit of zing (and extra detoxifying power), or buy one of these fab cucumber water infusers from Full Circle and pretend you’re sipping on a Hendricks and tonic.

2. Eat balanced meals

“No sh*t, Sherlock,” I hear you groan. “But YOU try making an Instagram-worthy green smoothie bowl with cacao nibs when you’ve been up since 4am with a snotty-nosed toddler.”

To that I say “Fair play, sister.” But there are some businesses out there who make eating well a little less of a hassle. Check out Hello Fresh, a handy and healthy subscription service that does the hard work for you, delivering everything you need including the recipes for nutritionally balanced, uncomplicated meals for two to four people. 3. Schedule a weekly (oh ok, monthly) at-home pamper sesh

Escaping to the day spa can be difficult, not to mention pricey, but that’s no excuse not to treat yourself to a little pampering. Set the mood at home with a lush, scented soy candle from Simply Sarah

4. Practice mindfulness

Not just for hippie dippie types, the benefits of mindfulness are well documented, and it really pays to take a few minutes each day to still your mind and just be. Knowing how to start can be tricky, so consider trying one of the great guided apps out there like Smiling Mind.

Yoga is another way to enhance your mind-body connection, and is a great workout for mums as there’s no equipment needed, other than a mat or towel, and you can practice for free in your living room or backyard with the help of a DVD, app, or even YouTube. It’s also a great work out to do with your little one!

5. De-clutter

De-cluttering is having a real moment right now, with celebs and social influencers bragging about their super-organised wardrobes and paperless home offices all over the shop. The sell? An organised space is said to help reduce anxiety and negative emotions, and help increase mental clarity and overall energy (it definitely works for me!).

While it may be impractical to throw out everything in the home that doesn’t “spark joy” as instructed by streamlining guru du jour Marie Kondo, you can, at least, commit to tackling one area a day, even if it’s just the third drawer down. And no, hiding the mess behind a cupboard door does not count.

What wellness resolutions are you trying to achieve?
