The Most Expensive Bottles of Grog in Australia

I’m not a drinker, but even if I did, it would be something that came in a cardboard box because my palette is not sophisticated enough to tell the difference between good stuff and bad. I’m not sure if people buy these types of bottles of grog to drink, or as an investment… Maybe a very special occasion?  Dunno.  But it is just unbelievable the prices that these are fetching.

Makes me kinda want to try it – without buying…..

GlenDronach Grandeur – $2,747.55

  • Size: 700ml
  • Vintage: 31 Years Old
  • Country: Scotland

This Sherry Whiskey is old enough to move out of home, have it’s licence and probably its first home loan.  The 31 Year Old having spent its days in Oloroso sherry casks. Sounds like bliss.  After over three decades, the single malt was bottled in 2010. There are only 1,013 bottles sealed with golden wax in existence.

Sounds fancy. I’ll grab one from the bottle-o on the way home from picking the kids up from school.

Macallan 30 Year Old Scotch Whiskey – $3,052.77

  • Size: 700ml
  • Vintage:  1988
  • Country: Scotland

Let’s start with the cheap stuff.  This is a 30 year old single malt from the legendary Macallan distillery and have independently bottled it up for our Single Cask Series! This Speysider (I had to Google it – it is in Scotland) was distilled all the way back in October 1988 and was left to rest in a single bourbon hogshead for three decades, before being bottled in November 2018.

Swig it when your parent’s aren’t looking and fill the bottle with tea.

The Balvenie 40 Year Old – $5,304.29

  • Size: 700ml
  • Vintage: 40 Years Old
  • Country: Scotland

Because I know nothing about grog, I copied the following from the website:

40 year old single malt Scotch whisky from the Balvenie distillery in Speyside (Scotland). A stunning balance is met between traditional whisky cask and Sherry cask malts making this superbly aged expression one to behold. Just try to say the words “40 year old Balvenie” without going “Mmmmm…”

This costs as much as a holiday to Fiji.  I think I’d go to Fiji.

The Last Drop Scotch Whiskey – $6,000.00

  • Size: 700ml
  • Vintage: 1960
  • Country of Origin: Scotland

The Last Drop story is one of true discovery and vision which has resulted in a whisky that transcends all before it. There were only 1347 bottles left in the old sherry casks when they found them; 70 malt and 12 grain whiskies. But what remained was magnificent; it has been received with acclamation around the world. It is bottled by hand and sealed with wax; in this way it will never change – this is genuinely the world’s most exclusive whisky with fewer than 400 bottles. Uncovered by 3 giants of the industry with over 120 years experience (including the creation of Johnnie Walker Blue Label!), it is a whisky “that gives you a reason to live”.

Yeah I don’t think I’d ‘live’ if I bought a bottle of this home one afternoon.

Glenfiddich 50 Year Old Scotch Whisky – $44,000

  • Size: 700ml
  • Vintage: 50 Years Old
  • Country: Scotland

Glenfiddich 50 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky – one of the rarest and most precious single malt Scotch whiskies ever matured and bottled in Dufftown, Scotland, home of Glenfiddich. A result of half a century of ageing in oak barrels and drawn from two casks that were married together for three months by Glenfiddich’s malt master, Brian Kinsman. Labelled with wax and elegantly packaged in a hand stitched leather-bound case, lined with hand-woven silk and decorated with Scottish silver inspired by William Grant and Sons personal ledgers. The whisky itself is one of purity and power – a harmonious nose with vibrant and complex floral notes along with a faint hint of smoke. Initially sweet to the palate with zesty orange marmalade and vanilla toffee, the whisky cascades into a series of layers including herbs, floral and again, gentle hints of smoke.
