Maria del Carmen Bousada de Lara’s is a story that, unfortunately, did not end well for this older mother, or her children.

She gave birth to twin sons Christian and Pau in December of 2009 just one week before her 67th birthday, following IVF treatments undertaken in Los Angeles. She was heavily criticised for choosing to undergo the treatment by her family, and indeed was later accused of lying to the clinic about her age in order to be treated. Then, soon after giving birth, Maria was diagnosed with stomach cancer and after several years battling the disease, she died in 2009, leaving her 2 ½ year old sons as orphans.
