Cot Recalled Due to Head and Neck Entrapment Hazards

Consumer group CHOICE has warned parents about a cot that could trap a baby’s head and cause choking.

The group has issued a warning, stating that the All 4 Bubs Lunar Cot lacks strength and stability, as well as “posing a head and neck entrapment hazard”.

Tom Godfrey, CHOICE Head of Media, said that the cots failed to meet safety standards. “This is quite possibly one of the worst cots we have ever seen. We strongly urge any consumer who has purchased this cot to stop using it immediately and seek a refund,” he said.

During testing, it was discovered that the cot bars could be pulled out of their sockets, the instructions were not clear or complete, castors lifted off the floor in a stability test, and there were no safety markings on the cot.

“The filler bars detached from the top and bottom rails, causing a fall risk. The rubber pieces at the tips of the filler bars were detachable and small enough to cause a choking hazard,” CHOICE stated after a strength test.

The ACCC has subsequently issued a recall notice as the $449 cot poses several potential risks to infants and children including entrapment, choking and fall hazards.

Mr Godfrey said that the recall calls for a review on standards for cots and mattresses. “We welcome the swift action by the regulator, this latest failure reinforces the need to review the mandatory Australian Standard for cots and mattresses and beef up the fines for companies that put infants at risk. Whether it’s dodgy cots or flimsy mattresses, kids’ safety has to be the priority. It’s clear a number of companies are putting profit first,” he said.

The ACCC has advised parents to stop using the cot and contact All 4 Bubs for a full refund.
