A mother has been arrested after she was pictured towing her children in a toy wagon behind her car.
Alana Nicole Donahue, 27, from Oregon in the US, was reportedly waving at other vehicles to overtake her on the busy road as she towed her three and five-year-old children in a toy wagon behind her white Ford Taurus.
After police arrested her, the mother explained that she only took her children for a spin around a roundabout, and was only driving at 8km an hour.
Lt. Scott McKee told The Register-Guard that the mother failed to see the problem.
“She didn’t understand what the problem was because she was only driving 5 mph and she just wanted to show the kids a good time.” he said.
However, witnesses say the mother was going much faster, and that she put the kids in harm’s way and caused traffic. Other witnesses claimed that some drivers parked their cars and confronted the mother in an effort to stop her.
The Register-Guard reported that the wagon was tied to the vehicle with “a strap or similar connector.”
The police logs show that one driver reported that nearly hit the wagon. It added that the mother eventually stopped and put the wagon inside the car, while allegedly telling one of the concerned drivers to “be an adult about it.”
Lt McKee said Ms Donahue was not intoxicated at the time of the incident.
Ms Donahue was arrested and charged with two counts of reckless endangering. She now reportedly risks losing custody of her kids.
