Mum Posts Touching Photo of Husband Cradling His Sick Son But Facebook Keeps on Deleting It

A mum has posted an incredible photo of her husband cradling their sick son — but Facebook keeps on deleting it.

Mum Heather Whitten was so touched when her husband, Thomas, tried to soothe their two-year-old son, Fox, who had an attack of vomiting and diarrhoea, by cradling him under the shower to ease his pain, that she decided to share it on Facebook.

Ms Whitten, from Southern Arizona in the US, who is a photographer, wrote on her Facebook page that she took the photograph in November 2014 before Fox, then aged about one, was taken to hospital with salmonella poisoning. She wrote:

“Thomas had spent hours in the shower with him, trying to keep his fever down and letting the vomit and diarrhoea rinse off of them both as it came. It was a powerful moment for us as parents. As I sat in the shower with the two of them I was just overwhelmed with the scene in front of me. This man. This husband and partner and father. He was so patient and so loving and so strong with our tiny son in his lap. His whispers of reassurance to Fox, that he would be OK and that Thomas would take care of him were so steady and so honest.”

The amazing photo has been shared more than 31,000 times and gained over 136,000 reactions on Facebook.

However, The Sun reported that the picture was removed from Facebook a number of times for apparently “violating” its rules.

Daily Mail Australia reported that Ms Whitten was shocked by what happened to the photo.

“There is nothing sexual or exploitative about this image. There aren’t even any “private parts” showing. I wish I could express this all in a better way. I wish I were better spoken and not as rambling. But, this is important to me. And, I hope that one day there will be a platform that not only allows this kind of freedom for families and artists like my own… but, welcomes them without fear.”

Ms Whitten, who is a mum of four children “” Lillian, seven, Leena, four, and two-year-old twins Fox and Persephone, said she was also surprised that some people found her photo unacceptable because of its nudity.

“I was taken aback by how many people missed the story or didn’t even look past the nudity to find the story. They were just hung up on them both being nude and being in the shower. I had crossed a line. It was too intimate. It shouldn’t be shared publicly. But, I disagree. My family may be different than yours. But, that doesn’t make your way right or my way wrong.”

However, despite this, more people have expressed their support for Ms Whitten who called the photo ‘beautiful’ and a ‘fantastic picture.’

Ms Whitten said that she thought twice about sharing the picture, but she said it was too beautiful not to share. She told Today in the US:

“I think it would be really powerful to show my son [the picture of] him vulnerable and wrapped up in his father’s arms. (The photo shows) this is the kind of man that your father is and I hope that [Fox] will see that and never be ashamed or embarrassed by it.”
