Teenager Sues Parents for Posting Embarrassing Photos of Her on Facebook

An 18-year-old woman is suing her parents for posting photos of her as a child on Facebook and without her consent.

The teenager, from the southern Carinthia region of Austria, claims that since 2009, over 500 images, including embarrassing and intimate images from her childhood, have been posted by her parents on the social media site, and said has made her life a misery.

The Local Austria reported that the teenager said the shared images include baby pictures of her having her nappy changed and later potty training pictures.

“They knew no shame and no limit – and didn’t care whether it was a picture of me sitting on the toilet or lying naked in my cot – every stage was photographed and then made public.

“I’m tired of not being taken seriously by my parents,” she said

She added that despite her requests, her parents have refused to delete the photos – prompting her to sue them. She said that the photos were shared on Facebook with her parents’ 700 friends.

She said that her father believes that since he took the photos, he has the right to publish the images.

Her lawyer Michael Rami believes the teenager has a good chance of winning in court.

A court case is set to take place in November and Mr Rami says his client will win if it can be proven the photos violated her rights to a personal life.

If successful, the parents may end up having to pay compensation to their daughter – as well as her legal costs
