Toddler Gets Second Degree Burns At Day Care

Distressed mother Sophie Zhang is demanding answers after picking up her 15 month old son from daycare.

Upon collection she noticed severe burns down his face and chest and is wanting to know why the centre waited two hours to contact her.

The Brisbane mother was informed that her son, Leon, was injured after drinking from a sippy cup.

“I still don’t understand how he got access to hot water, how did he get burnt?” she told 7News.

Sophie rushed her son to hospital after collecting him, where doctors diagnosed his burns as second degree.

The police conducted a week long investigation into to the incident and have concluded that it was just an unfortunate accident and will not be laying criminal charges.

This comes after a spate of tragic childcare incidents, including the child forgotten inside a centre after hours, the drowning death of a boy in Perth and another baby dying at family daycare in Brisbane.

The Education Department are investigating whether the daycare breached regulations according to 7News.

“It’s a big trust to hand over your baby to someone,” Sophie said.

She has since decided to pull her son out of daycare and care for her Leon at home after the distressing incident.
