Victoria Police: Students As Young As 11 Are Caught Dealing And Using Drugs

Police have revealed that the number of child drug users are increasing at an alarming rate as students as young as 11 years old have been caught dealing and using drugs.

Victoria police reported that they have responded to more than 450 drug offences on school grounds since January 2014, while in 2016 alone, police investigated 166 drug offences.

Victorian Police Assistant Commisioner Rick Nugent told the Herald Sun that ketamine, LSD and ice were some of the dangerous narcotics found on Victorian teenagers.

In one instance, an 11-year-old student was reportedly caught with an ice pipe in his possession.

“We know the harm of drugs is significant, and we constantly need to look at how we can do better,” he said. “Kids aged 11, 12, 13 have been picked up with ice pipes on them.”

Mental Health Minister Martin Foley said that the government has increased its funding to educate young people about the risks of drugs. “We’ve increased funding to our drug treatment service for young people by almost $2 million per year,” Mr Foley said. “No other government has invested more to support communities in tackling the impacts of ice and other drugs.”
