A Woman who punished her boyfriend by burning his penis with a hair-straightener after he cheated on her has been given a suspended jail sentence in South Australia.
Bronwyn Joy Parker afflicted scarring, third-degree burns to the man’s genitalia in their Mount Barker home after he agreed to the punishment for having sex with his ex-girlfriend.
The 22-year-old told police she had only applied the straightener for a couple of seconds and thought the pain would only feel like sunburn.
“To start off with, it looked brown around the outside and it didn’t look too bad, it just looked as if you had cooked a piece of meat,” Parker said of the injuries she inflicted on her boyfriend.
Meanwhile the victim described his penis as “swollen, blistering, pussy and black in colour” after the incident, which required treatment at the Burns Unit of the Royal Adelaide Hospital.
District Court Judge Paul Muscat said the crime was one of the “most unusual” he had come across during his time in court, after Parker pleaded guilty to causing serious harm to her partner.
He said the third-degree burns to each side of the shaft of the victim’s penis required constant review by medical specialists, who predict the healing and scarring process to take up to two years.
“In short, his penis will be scarred for life and he will suffer from a number of issues, including the proper function of his penis, not to mention the cosmetic and psychological problems associated with the scarring to such a sensitive site,” Judge Muscat said.
The judge told the court Parker’s relationship, which developed after the pair met on Facebook, was volatile.
“You regularly abused him, including physically, if you suspected, or, if he admitted to being unfaithful to you. You were particularly jealous of his association with his ex-girlfriend,” he said pointing out the agreement the pair made that if the victim ever cheated on Parker he would let her burn his testicles with the straighteners.
Parker held the man to his promise after she found out he had spent two nights with his ex-girlfriend and had sex with her.
“You told him to remove his penis from his shorts, which he did,” the judge said.
“He said that you could ‘tap it’ with the straighteners after he removed his penis, after you said that you were not going to burn his testicles.”
“You took his penis in your hand and then, with the other, you placed the straighteners on either side of the shaft of his penis before squeezing them momentarily.
“I need not here say anything of the pain and shock which he then experienced.”
Judge Muscat sentenced Parker to nine months’ jail, which was suspended as part of an 18-month good behaviour bond.
