Peanut Brittle

Most schools do have a nut-free policy but fetes are different, and if you are permitted – Peanut Brittle is a real winner – especially with the Dads!  Wrap it in small cellophane clear bags and wrap it with twine. You can substitute the peanuts for cashews or macadamia nuts if you want something a bit more spesh!

Whole Homemade Cakes to Take Home

Every time I go to a School Fete I end up buying a beautiful homemade cake to take home – and scoff!  This is a great money maker too as you can charge a substantial amount more for a whole cake than just small packets of smaller fete fair.  Ask the parent’s at your school to bake their specialty – box it up and sell them at the door!

Great whole cakes that will sell fantastically well at School Fete’s include:

Toffee Apples

Toffee Apples are one of the top-selling fete food ideas!  They are always a super winner at fetes. They are easy for the kids to hold and eat and are easily transportable. Choose small green apples (red ones tend to bruise easily). They can be made a day or two out (keep them cold if the weather is warm). You can buy Toffee Apple sticks at most packaging suppliers, but if you don’t want to make the big ones, just use paddle pop sticks.

I usually make a huge batch of the really small apples for little kids (and sell them for $2 each) – and then the larger Granny Smith apples for grown-ups for $3.50 each.  I’ve never ever had any left!
