Nothing says winter fun like a trip to the snow.
The Australian ski fields are a perfect destination for an activity-packed family weekend away.Whether it’s Mount Buller and Hotham in Victoria, or Thredbo and Perisher in NSW, there is something for the whole family to do. Skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing or even tobogganing with the kids!
Often family and friends will split up for the day to do their favourite activities. Some head for the most difficult black runs and others prefer an easier, more casual descent.
As the last chair lifts take you to the village and you head back to your chalet or apartment, you really begin to look forward to sitting down with everyone for a hearty, hot meal.
The last thing you really want to do is slave over a hot stove or oven. Not only are you tired, you also want to be able to enjoy time with your family reminiscing your adventures together.
That’s the beauty of a slow cooker. You can put all the ingredients into the slow cooker and turn it on in the morning and when you get back from a full day of skiing, you’ll have that hearty meal ready to serve to the family. Chicken works so well in slow-cooker recipes and Steggles drumsticks are a firm family favorite. The meat is so tender and falls off the bone after simmering in a sauce all day.
One of our favorite chicken meals is the Steggles Mediterranean Chicken Drumsticks recipe! Although not technically a slow cooker recipe but works well after a tiresome day. The secret is to serve it with some crusty bread with real butter and a Greek salad.
Curries are another option when you’ve been out all day skiing, I love making curries with some basmatic rice. Again perfect for the slow cooker.Make it as spicy or as mild as your taste buds can handle!
