How to Start an Online Tea Business

Tea is so hot right now.  If you have a good palette for flavoured teas you could make money by becoming a unique tea blend creator and sell your unique blends online for a hefty profit. We show you how to start an online tea business!

For under $100 you could purchase a few teas to blend and keep the packaging extremely simple.  I’ve even seen tea blends sold in test tube containers which are super adorable. You could sell your new tea blend at a local market, on Etsy or just start up your very own Facebook Page.  Have influencers try your tea and post about it online!

Tea has been popular for thousands of years. And now that most drinks you purchase are full of sugar and all sorts of naughty ingredients, tea remains a healthy and sugar-free drink.

Unique Niche Ideas Using Tea Blends

If the thought of just mixing teas and selling them as unique blends doesn’t quite excite you – don’t worry – there are so many niche areas when it comes to tea – have you thought of the following:

You Could Even White Label Your Own Brand of Tea!

White labelling is where you take a popular brand and have it professional re-branded just for you. White labelling or Private Labelling has been popular in skincare and haircare products for years now, but it is starting to expand into food goods, and you can now easily get privately branded tea – with your logo on the front. This is a bit of a ‘cheat’ when it comes to starting your online tea business – shhhhhh!

The following companies offer Private Label Tea:

Where to Purchase Bulk Beautiful Teas

You can purchase tea for your online tea business from reputable wholesale sellers (you must have top quality!) such as:

Where to Buy Wholesale Tea Accessories

Tea Accessories are a great way to ‘upsell’ on your online tea business. Items you could sell in addition to your unique tea blends include:

How to Market Your Online Tea Business

Design a modern and beautiful logo and packaging labels that will reflect the brand you are trying to portray. Have a look at other tea sellers to see what is on-trend at the moment.

To ‘dip your toe’ into seeing how your unique tea blend will be received, set up a stall at your local market and offer free tasting samples to people walking past. If they love it – they will buy it!

Next is to approach popular cafes and coffee shops to see if they would be interested in trying and stocking your tea. Take a free sample around. Cold calling is tough, but you may just get lucky if the owner loves your product.

Where to Sell Your Tea Online

You can stock your product at one of the many online selling platforms such as Etsy, Ebay and local Facebook Buy Swap and Sell Sites. Approach gift shops to sell your tea on a consignment basis.

If you want to set up an online store, the easiest option would be a Shopify store. The reason being that you don’t have to fork out the cost of a website from scratch. Shopify will cost you $29 per month, but they do offer a free trial if you want to dip your toes in the water first.
