Mum Warns About Baby-Wearing in the Kitchen After Suffering Burns From Kitchen Explosion

A mother has warned other mums to be careful about baby-wearing when in the kitchen after she suffered burns in a horrific stove burner explosion.

Mum Molly Landis took to Facebook to tell her story about the night she got involved in an accident in her home. She wrote:

“On Tuesday I was involved in an accident where my stove burner exploded and sent a fire ball to my face, neck and chest.

“This caused open wounds and burns to my face and chest. Yes, this is horrible and painful but I haven’t been able to stop thinking about how lucky I truly am.”

Ms Landis said that despite the accident, she was thankful that she wasn’t wearing her baby daughter when the accident happened.

“On this particular night a guardian angel was watching over me and my baby [because] for the first time in her life she fell asleep in her swing and I wasn’t wearing her while I was in the kitchen.

“The worst of my burns is to my chest exactly where her precious little head would have been laying if she were in her carrier.

“The point of my message is to pleaseeeee be cautious of the activities we do while wearing our babies,” she said.

She explained that since most mums use a sling or baby carrier to multitask and that others cook with the baby, it is very important to rethink about baby-wearing in the kitchen. “We never think it could happen to us and I never thought it would happen to me. So grateful she wasn’t near the explosion,” she said.

Ms Landis’ post has now gained more than 14,000 reactions and over 21,000 shares with some mums criticising Ms Landis for baby-wearing in the kitchen, while others confessed that they do the same and expressed their support for her.
