5 Collagen Coffee Infusions to Try

Coffee is often said to be bad for us – but seriously – who can get through a morning without a delicious cup of ‘Wake Up Juice’?  Coffee is the elixir of the Gods, and no amount of ‘caffeine is bad’ will change my mind.

I’m currently on a health kick (ie I’m trying to get rid of my muffin top – again!) – and I’ve been sent a heap of ‘Collagen Coffee’ to try out.  Now, this is something I actually had to look into as I hadn’t heard about it before it came pouring into my PO Box!

1. What Actually is Collagen Coffee?

Collagen Coffee is a mixture of our favourite cup of Joe, infused with either Collagen Powder or added Keto oils such as MCT Oil, Grass-Fed Ghee or Butter (like Bulletproof Coffee) which kinda sounds both delicious and terrifying.  But I do like the thought of combining my coffee with collagen as it really kills two birds with one stone.

I’m not really one for Smoothies during the day (especially when I’m being good) so adding my daily dose of collage to my coffee equals win-win.

2. Why Should You Take Collagen Powder?

After the age 35, everyone’s natural rate of producing collagen slows right down.  By age 60, your collagen levels are half of what they were in your twenties.  Collagen is your body’s ‘glue’ that makes up your skin, bones, muscles, tendons and joints.  It keeps your body moving by pulling all those moveable parts together.

Collagen Powder is a man-made supplement is the new superfood, although it has been around for a little while now.   With a lack of collagen, your skin develops lines, starts to sag a little – and generally – lack of collagen = starting to age.

You can’t get your body to produce more collagen, but you can take Collagen Powder as a supplement.

3. What Actually is Collagen Powder?

Collagen Powder is a type of protein that is found in the connective tissue of all animals – us included.  Collagen is made up of amino acid units including glycine, hydroxyproline and arginine – and these amino acids make a fantastic protein supplement for your body which help to nourish your skin.

This collagen protein is essentially gelatin.  Animal-based collagens are made from the discarded tissues and bones of animals including hooves, and hides (yuck) – but there are now also vegan collagen powders made from plant-based proteins.

4. Animal-Based Collagen Vs Vegan Collagen

There is a huge difference between animal-based collagen and vegan collagen.  Let’s show you why.

Animal-based collagen supplements are made from ground-up hooves, hides and bones of animals.  These ‘body parts’ are a by-product of animal farming.  Animal-based collagen replaces the lost collagen levels in your body.

The problem with animal-based collagen is that there are often contaminants such as antibiotics, steroids, incentives and parabens. These contaminants are not good for your body.

Vegan Collagen or technically ‘Vegan Collagen Peptides’ are not made from collagen at all – but are a ‘recipe for your body to make more collagen naturally’.  Vegan Collagen contains ingredients such as Vitamin C and nutrients your body needs as you age.

If you have a healthy life and eat nutritious food with lots of leafy greens and good quality protein, Vegan Collagen Supplements probably won’t make much of a difference.
