1. Tiago Henrique Gomes da Rocha

Tiago Henrique Gomes da Rocha was a security guard who had committed 39 murder crimes from 2011 to 2014. His targets include women, homosexuals, and homeless people and the youngest victim was 14 years old. His manner was shooting his potential victims after shouting “robbery” while riding on his motorcycle. Nonetheless, there was really no robbery happening. He’s just leaving the victims lying on the ground.

In 2014, the police spotted him stealing a number plate from a motorbike in a supermarket located in Goiania. He was arrested. When the police searched his home, they found a motorbike, stolen plates, and a .38 revolver, which was believed to be a murder weapon. A few months after he was arrested, he attempted to kill himself by slashing his wrist in prison. He didn’t succeed.

About 2 years later, in 2016, the authorities discovered the murder crimes he committed and he was sentenced to 25 years in prison.

2. Charlene Williams

Charlene Williams was never really alone with her crimes. Her husband, Gerald Gallego, had been her partner-in-crime. Charlene and Gerald’s tandem was also known as “The Love Slave Killers”. In the course of 2 years, from 1978 to 1980, they had killed 10 people, most of which were teenagers.

Charlene was actually aloof as a child. She also came from a family that wasn’t at all disastrous. But when she entered adulthood and began to consume drugs and alcohol, that was when she became a savage, but still not to the point that she would kill anyone. It was just when she met Gerald that she began to be cruel.

When they were first charged of the murder crimes they committed, they pleaded not guilty but were still sent to prison. To reduce her sentence, she talked to her attorneys and convinced them that she testifies against Gerald. They agreed alongside the prosecutors. Charlene then was released after 16 years and 8 months while Gerald, found guilty of murder and kidnapping, remained in his cell until he died in 2002.

3. Gerald Gallego

Gerald Gallego was born on July 17, 1946, in a family that was unusual and not at all decent. His mother was a prostitute and his father was a criminal, which led to him to become a sexual assailant and a criminal himself. At the age of 13, he started his criminal career, molesting a 6-year-old girl. From then on, he’d been engaged to other different crimes, such as armed robbery and murder.

Gerald was Charlene William’s husband, and they were called “The Love Slave Killers”. Together, they sexually assaulted 10 people, made them sex slaves, and killed them right after. Among their victims include Ronda Scheffler, Kippi Vaught, Brenda Judd, and Sandra Colley. Nonetheless, it was Gerald who made most of the violent, inhumane actions.

He was sentenced to death twice, in 1983 and in 1984. However, a few days before the day of execution, he died of cancer.

4. Paul John Knowles

Paul John Knowles was born in Orlando, Florida on April 17, 1946. He’s also known as “Lester Daryl Gates”, “Daryl Golden”, and “The Casanova Killer”. In a span of only 4 months, he had already took more than 20 people as his victims. Some were even from other parts of the United States, such as Georgia, Texas, Ohio, Nevada, Alabama, Virginia, Atlanta, and the list goes on.

Most of his victims were women. He would entice them with his charm and sexually assault them, then will murder them afterwards. It had never been easy for the police to capture him. He took them to the woods and they had to chase him. It was just when Paul lost control of his vehicle that he got cornered. Although only 20 crimes were proven to have been done by Paul, he claimed that he murdered 35 people.

He died in 1974 while he was attempting to escape from the back seat of the police car. A policeman fired 3 gunshots at him.

5. H. H. Holmes

Herman Webster Mudgett, also known as Henry Howard Holmes or H. H. Holmes, was born on May 16, 1861, in Gilmanton, New Hampshire. He was a doctor, and although it’s quite reputable to hear, don’t be misled. From 1891 to 1894, he had committed murder crimes. According to the investigation, he had 9 victims. However, he said the he had murdered 27 people.

H. H. Holmes had many mistresses, most of whom ended up dying in his murder castle. The said murder castle was a drugstore that he turned into an establishment that contained an apartment, a new drugstore, retail spaces, and a hotel. The hotel, located in the 3rd floor, wasn’t finished, though. There was also a basement, in which acid vats, quicklime, and a crematorium could be found. When the basement was discovered, H. H. Holmes was arrested.

6. Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev

Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev was born on July 22, 1993, in Tokmok, Chuy Oblusu in Kyrgyzstan. He, alongside his parents, moved to the United States in 2002 under political asylum. In 2007, they were granted permanent residency. In school, Dzhokhar was never mistreated. His peers didn’t see him as foreign at all. He was accepted by all and he was even sociable himself. He was normal. He didn’t seem like someone who would do something so cruel.

However, it turned out Dzhokhar wasn’t at all genuine. He had been involved in numerous mass destructions, such as the 2011 Waltham Triple Murder and the 2013 Boston Marathon Bombing, which affected hundreds of people. He wasn’t actually alone. He was with his brother Tamerlan, who died during a shootout between them and the police in 2013. In 2015, he was sentenced to death. To date, he’s still waiting to be executed.

7. Vera Renczi

Vera Renczi was born in 1903. Her story lacks proof and any supporting documents so some people think it’s fabricated or a mere fiction. Nonetheless, as per the available sources, at the age of 15, she had been rebellious and unmanageable, running away with numerous men, mostly older. She was described as a woman who seek for men’s affection. She got married at the age of 20 and had a son as a result of marriage.

Vera can be regarded as jealous and quite suspecting, as well as cruel. In fact, her first husband, Karl Schick, died because of her suspicion that he’s being unfaithful. So, she poured arsenic on his wine and let him die. That also happened to the man she married next. Nevertheless, after her 2nd marriage, she didn’t get married again. She instead involved himself to married men and remained a mistress. She was still suspicious, though, so whenever she thought her men were having affairs, she’d let the poison do the job.

When the wife of one of her lovers reported that her husband didn’t return home after going to Vera’s house, the police investigated her residence and found 32 coffins containing dead bodies. Vera confessed eventually what happened to her two husbands, and she also confessed that she killed her son. All in all, he committed 35 murders. She was then sentenced to life imprisonment.

8. Paul Bernardo

Paul Bernardo was born on August 27, 1964, in Scarborough, Ontario in Canada. He was a serial rapist who was also known as “Paul Jason Teale”, “The Scarborough Rapist”, and “The Schoolgirl Killer”. At an early age, he had been exposed to molestation. His father, Kenneth, was fond of touching and caressing kids, including his daughter, in an erotic way.

Paul was an adorable child when he was young. His good looks had already been known ever since. He was the child any parent would want to have. He was well-mannered, kind, and sweet. However, when he became older, he began to mistreat women. He had sexual fantasies about them, abused them, and disrespected them. When he entered college, he started picking up women in bars.

Other than that, he also stalked women and sexually assaulted them, and the youngest victims according to the record were 15-years-old girls. He was convicted of murder, sexual assault, and torture for the crimes he committed from 1896 to 1982. He was then charged of life imprisonment with a possibility of parole after 25 years.

9. Karla Homolka

Karla Homolka was actually the wife of Paul Bernardo from 1991 to 1994. She was born on May 4, 1970, in Port Credit, Ontario, who had been involved in some crimes his then-husband committed. Karla and Paul met in one of the bars where Paul was picking up women. She was 17 then and he was 23. Their tandem was called the “Ken and Barbie Killers”.

Karla, when she was still young, was praised for her beauty, intelligence, and character. She loved animals, even worked in a veterinary clinic when she graduated in high school. She was the eldest child of Dorothy and Karel Homolka. She had 3 siblings.

Karla never committed major crimes alone. She was always with Paul, whom she shared the same sick fantasies with. She tolerated his thirst for sexual activities, and there was even a case wherein she didn’t even stop him from assaulting and raping her 15-year-old sister Tammy Homolka. Together, they had killed 3 people and were charged of manslaughter.

10. Joran van der Sloot

Joran van der Sloot was born on August 6, 1987, in Arnhem, Netherlands. He was the son of a lawyer and an art teacher. In school, he was an honor student and was even a star player of soccer and tennis. Nonetheless, at the age of 17, he got involved in a criminal case and had been one of the suspects upon the disappearance of an 18-year-old woman. He was arrested but was released a few months after because the evidence wasn’t enough.

3 years later, in 2008, Joran moved to Thailand to study business. However, he didn’t continue his education and instead bought a restaurant called Sawadee Cup, which later on became an avenue for his prostitution business concealed as a modeling agency. He used the alias “Murphy Jenkins” for his safety. It was recorded on cam by Patrick van der Eem, an undercover agent working for Peter de Vries, a crime reporter in the Netherlands.

In 2010, a 21-year-old woman named Stephany Flores was found dead in a hotel suite in Lima, Peru registered under the name of Joran. He was arrested a week later and found with him were a laptop, a foreign currency, and bloody clothes, among others. About 2 days later, he admitted that he killed Stephany. He was then charged of extortion and wire fraud and was convicted of qualified murder and simple robbery.

11. Ted Bundy

Theodore Robert Bundy or more known as Ted Bundy was a serial killer born on November 24, 1946, in Burlington, Vermont. He had used different aliases, such as “Chris Hagen”, “Kenneth Misner”, “Officer Roseland”, “Richard Burton”, and “Rolf Miller”. Many people regarded him as handsome and charismatic, and most of his victims were captured because of her charming persona as well as his great impersonation skills.

At an early age, he had already been showing some hints of his potential to be a criminal. He would find pictures of naked women in the trash cans, read stories about sexual violence, and there was even one case wherein he surrounded his cousin with knives while she was sleeping on her bed. He was terrible, and even to the dead ones. He’s a necrophile. His sexual interest wasn’t limited to the alive ones.

He had been committing crimes from 1974 to 1978, and in a span of those years, he claimed to have killed 30 people. He was convicted of aggravated kidnapping, attempted murder, murder, burglary, and rape. He was sentenced to death by electrocution in 1980 and he died in 1989.

There’s a movie called “Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile” released in 2019 that talked about the life of Ted Bundy. American actor Zac Efron starred as him.

12. Elizabeth Báthory

Elizabeth Báthory was born on August 7, 1560, in Nyírbátor, Hungary. She was also known as “The Blood Countess” and “Countess Dracula” and was described by some as having vampire-like tendencies. Among the criminals in this list, she had the most number of victims. She, together with 4 other perpetrators, had killed hundreds of young women. Some said it was because she believed she would keep her youth when she soaks herself in the blood of young women. However, it was proven not true.

Elizabeth was from a powerful family. She was the daughter of Baron George VI Báthory, brother of a high official in Transylvania that time, and Baroness Anna Báthory, daughter of an official in Transylvania as well. Other family members were a noble, a king, a grand duke, a prince, and a judge royal. Nonetheless, although she was surrounded by highly-respected people, there were stories that said it was them who influenced and even trained her to be cruel. There was no evidence, though.

She got married at the age of 15 to Ferenc Nádasdy, who was 19 then. They had 4 children, but there were rumors that there were other 2 children that died as infants. Regardless, when Ferenc died in 1604 at the age of 48, he entrusted Elizabeth and their children to György Thurzó, who later had an important role in the discovery of Elizabeth’s crimes.

Rumors about Elizabeth’s killings began in 1602. However, it was just in 1610 when the investigation began. György, with the help of 2 notaries, had gathered testimonies from about 300 people who witnessed the cruelty of Elizabeth. According to them, her victims were those young women who served and studied etiquette in the castle. She would beat them, bite them, and burn them, among others. There were 2 court officials who had seen those.

Elizabeth was arrested when György himself witnessed her torturing women, and she wasn’t alone. She had with her 4 servants, namely Dorotya Semtész, Ilona Jó, Katarína Benická, and János Újváry. The accomplices were also arrested. Elizabeth was the most prolific murderer according to the Guinness World Records.

13. Charles Manson

Charles Manson was born on November 12, 1934, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was a singer-songwriter who was also a criminal. He began as a robber in 1943 when his mother got married to an alcoholic. He would steal items from stores as well as from his own house. His mother then brought him to a school for male delinquents. He tried to escape, but his mother brought him back.

In 1947, on Christmas Day, he stole a gun from his aunt’s house and moved to Gibault then to Indianapolis a few months later. He lived alone from then onwards. To survive, he was stealing goods from stores at night. He was caught, and the police sent him to a juvenile facility. A few days later, he met a student who became his crime-buddy. His name was Blackie Nielson, whose uncle was a professional thief. The 3 then became partners-in-crime.

However, 2 weeks after, Charles was arrested and was sent to a strict reform school. He escaped together with other 2 students. The 3 of them drove to California using a stolen car. However, it’s illegal to drive a stolen car across state lines, so when the police caught them, Charles was sent to another school for boys in Washington, D.C. In that school was where he began to do more intense crimes.

In 1952, a month before his parole hearing, Charles was brought to the Federal Reformatory for raping a boy. However, it didn’t help as he became much crueler. In the Federal Reformatory, he committed 8 offences, 3 of which involved homosexual acts. The authorities then decided to transfer him to a maximum security reformatory in Ohio. He was released in 1954.

His “Manson Family” began in 1968. The group was composed of about a hundred members, headed by Charles. They were the ones who killed Gary Hinman in 1969 as well as Sharon Tate in 1969.

14. Kenneth Bianchi

Kenneth Bianchi was born on May 22, 1951, in Rochester, New York. He was a serial killer who had murdered 12 victims in a span of almost 2 years. He was also known as “The Hillside Strangler”. He was an adopted child, and was described by his adoptive parents as a compulsive liar. At 5 years old, he was diagnosed of petit mal seizures.

His crimes began when he moved to California, where he met his cousin Angelo Bueno. “The Hillside Strangler” title wasn’t actually only for Kenneth alone. It was for him and his cousin. Both of them did the murders and sexual assaults from 1977 until they were arrested in 1979. Their targets were women, and they were posing as undercover police officers to get them.

During the trial, Kenneth had claimed that he had been suffering from multiple personality disorder and that the one who was liable for the crime he committed was his certain personality he named “Steve Walker”. However, the police found books of modern psychology in his home and realized he might be faking his disorder. He eventually admitted he was.

Kenneth was convicted of murder and was sentenced to life imprisonment.

15. Charles Schmid

Charles Schmid was a serial killer more known as “The Pied Piper of Tucson”. He was born on July 8, 1942, in Tucson, Arizona. He was an adopted child who had no interest in school. Nonetheless, people described him as intelligent and polite. His good looks were also noticeable even then, and he performed well when it came to sports. But just days before his graduation, he stole items from the school, which led for him to be suspended.

His title didn’t began right after he committed crimes. He was called “Pied Piper” since then due to his cowboy look. Regardless, his murders began in 1964, when he killed a high school student just to know the feeling of killing someone. Gretchen Fritz, one of his girlfriends, knew what he did. So when they broke up and Gretchen threatened him, he also killed her as well as her sister. His crimes were discovered and he was found guilty of murder. He was sentenced to death.

It wasn’t the cause of his death, though. His 2 fellow inmates were the ones who killed him.

16. Charles Starkweather

Charles Starkweather was born on November 24, 1938, in Lincoln, Nebraska. His first murder occurred in December 1957 when he killed an attendant named Robert Colvert out of anger. It was a shallow reason to kill, but it wasn’t the most cruel he had done. In January 1958, he murdered 10 people in a short period of 1 month, which was terribly impressive. In total, he had 11 victims, and among them include Velda Bartlett, August Meyer, and Robert Jensen. He was arrested in the same year, 1958, and was charged of first degree murder. He was then sentenced to death.

17. Theodore Durrant

Theodore Durrant only had committed 2 murders, but that doesn’t in any way mean that he shouldn’t be included here. Theodore Durrant was born in 1871 and he was also called as “The Demon of the Belfry”. His 2 victims were Blanche Lamont and Minnie Williams, both found in the church where he worked as an assistant superintendent. Blanche was found in the belfry while Minnie in a cabinet. There was no hard evidence that pointed to Theodore as the culprit, but he was still sentenced to be hanged because of Blanche’s sister’s testimony.

18. Estibaliz Carranza

Estibaliz Carranza was a good student when she was young. She excelled in school and had even mastered the German language in 3 months. But then, sadly, intelligence doesn’t really help in some cases, such as hers.

Estibaliz is also known as “The Ice Cream Killer” because of her ice cream parlour’s participation in her crimes. Her crimes began with her husband, when, according to her, he suddenly stopped having sex with her. As she really wanted to have a child ever since, she felt frustrated and decided to divorce him because she thought that if her husband wouldn’t give him what she wants, he should instead leave. However, he wouldn’t leave, so she killed him. The body was stored in her parlour’s basement.

Another victim was his boyfriend. When she found that he was having an affair, she didn’t talk about it with him but instead shot him while he was unconscious and drunk. She also brought the body to the basement, just beside the body of her husband. But then, unfortunately, a few days later, a group of people did some maintenance on her parlour. The group went to the basement, and that’s when her crimes were discovered. She fled.

When she was found and got arrested, she didn’t deny her crimes. She even confessed herself and explained why she did those. To date, she’s in a men’s prison due to her violent behaviour.

19. Richard Ramirez

Richard Ramirez was born on February 20, 1960, in El Paso, Texas. He was a serial killer known as “The Night Stalker”, “The Walk-In Killer”, and “The Valley Intruder”. He had victimised 43 people from 1984 to 1985, most of whom were women.

His criminal behaviour was influenced by his cousin Miguel Ramirez, who was an army veteran that showed him photos of women he sexually assaulted himself. Miguel also taught him military skills that had been useful for Richard to accomplish his crimes. But when he saw Miguel shot his own wife, he began to distant himself and decided to live with his older sister, who had a husband that was also a bad influence.

Richard’s murders began in 1984, when he killed a 9-year-old girl named Mei Lung in a hotel basement after raping her.

According to the authorities, he had done 13 murders, 5 attempted murders, 11 sexual assaults, and 14 burglaries.

He’s a vocal supporter of Satan.
