Soapnuts contain a natural substance Saponin which is similar to soap. When the shells come in contact with water, the saponin is released and suds are produced. They clean very effectively but will not leave any smell on your clothes. If you want your washing to smell wonderful just add a few drops of essential oils! The Soapnuts have a very distinctive vinegar type odour which will not be transferred to your clothing or dishes!
Soapnuts are extremely good for colours and also soften your clothing so there is no need for fabric softeners. They are very popular in Europe and the US and the nuts can be re-used for 4 6 consecutive washes and then you can place the used shells in the garden for compost. They are suitable for people with nut allergies (as they are really a berry) and for people with sensitive skin.
Stay at Home Mum is a proud stockist of these money saving nuts that can also be used to make hand wash, shampoo and spray and wipe!
