How do I tell my in laws no without hurting their feelings ?
They want io come over and paint our outdoor furniture that’s rusty

They no doubt come from the era of not wasting stuff.
Tell them you have a friend that really needs it so it helps them and you get new stuff or sell it and be proud to make some money instead of dumping it

Rusty and 12 years old is not a reason to throw it out. How disposable, and lazy this society has become.

Let them paint it, then sell it on gumtree.

Just politely say to them that while you appreciate their offer it isn’t needed as you would like new furniture but if they would like a project to complete they are more than welcome to get it, paint it and sell it.
