How much do you spend on birthday party gifts for school friends?

Answered 4 years ago

We've been doing the school friends birthday parties thing for a while (my kids are in Grade 4 and Grade 6) but I'm curious to know what others spend and whether it varies based on the age of the child.

That's cool. I use 50 dollar noted for toilet paper. Not because I can't find t.p but because I have too many notes 💩

The cost of whatever it costed the party parent to have you there. Much the same as a wedding. So usually between $25-$50

I've been around a long time and have never heard such a thing. If a parent chooses to spend $1000 on a party, that's on them. I'm not funding their choice

I've never had anyone ask me how much I paid for a party and I've never asked them. When I buy a gift, they can take it or leave it. I dont actually give a shit

$25-$30
Single parent, always cripples me... But lately ive been looking out for good specials and just buy a few presents throughout the year, often i can get mark downs to $5/$10 on items that were originally $25/$30.

I think the rule of thumb is the present should be roughly the amount the host is paying for my child to attend.

I do this too :) Im careful about only buying stuff I know that kids their age are into though because interests change pretty quickly. Its great if you can get stuff like board games as they dont really go out of fashion and in my experience kids love something like connect 4 as a present.

I pay about $20 Max. There are so many parties in a year and it really adds up. I'd rather spend the money on my own kids

Exactly. You can get a perfectly nice present for $20

I try to stock up during the toy sales and then put things aside. For friends, I like to give gifts worth around $20, for nieces/nephews gifts are usually worth around $30-$50.

I used to spend much, much more on family (at least $100 per child) but in return my own children would be given cheap crap so now I’ve toned it down. I still try and give nice, presents that I think the child will like but I compromise by buying it on sale.

My kids birthdays we have a “heck yes” day where I say “heck yes “to everything they want.
Icecream for breakfast? Hec yes
Cookie as a follow up? Heck yes
Day off school? Heck yes
I actually don’t buy a present for their birthday I take them to the shops and they get to choose the thing they want. If they choose something inexpensive I say you can choose more. It’s usually around $100 and it’s part of the yes day. And they get a party every year at our house. With their party and their actual day, and their siblings presents, I would probably end up spending between 300-400 dollars. I’m not really sure. Maybe more I really couldn’t give a figure cos I don’t buy gifts before hand and it varies year to year.

Sorry i read that wrong lol.

How much do people spend on my kids? I can honestly say I wouldn’t know as I don’t take stock in my mind when the gift her things, how much something cost doesn’t run through my mind.

ANSWER

$10-15. I expect to have to increase that a little as my kids older, my eldest is only 5yrs.

$10-15. I have a birthday box of bargains I buy and usually put a couple of things in a gift bag. Gel pens and books are cheap. Aldi stuff. Sometimes a nice printed tshirt from target.

$20 for the friends they aren’t close with $30-40 the ones they are close to. Books, craft supplies or board games are my usual go to because they are cheap, easy and aren’t going to break like a cheap toy.

We spend about $30! But depends on the child. Hate to say it but it's true. If it's a close friend we may spend a little more or if it's a pity invite (have to invite the whole class) and my kids don't really play with them it's just $30 or what not.
