Christmas lunch out

Answered 5 years ago

Has anyone ever had Christmas lunch out at restaurants, hotels etc with their family? Are they worth the $250 per person charge? In looking at options for this year for the 4 of us and none of the options involve me salving away all day 😆

Thank you all for your help! I didn’t even think about the catering side which i think is great. Having a quick look online I can get a whole cooked turkey for $180. About 4kg. I mean, that’s worth it right, for the fact that someone will be cooking it for me.

You can just buy the sliced version from the deli. That way you can buy the amount you want & don't even have to carve it!

Silly question but sliced turkey from the deli isn’t from fresh roast turkey is it? I’ve only just started eating meat again, I tend to stick to white meat and I notice sliced turkey from the deli doesn’t have tbG fresh steaming taste of a roast. I hope this makes sense 🙈

I'd spend the $1000 on a cheap beach holiday!

The supermarkets are releasing special Christmas ranges that require little to no work. Click & collect it the day before. Add disposable stuff (or dishwasher safe only) & make everyone help.

Besides, those lunches don't appeal to me as they would be incredibly cramped & noisy & some would be just trying to get their money's worth out of the included bar.

We paid $220 a head a few years ago for Christmas dinner. We didn't even realize how much it was though until seeing the bill at the end. What a shock 😱 I won't say where because I saw the awful comments before they were deleted :)

$1000 for Xmas lunch?? Whoa girl! Just, no.
Make everything the day before.
Or simplify what you are eating. Prepare what you can. Use disposable platers etc. Serve things in containers that can go straight in the fridge.
I wish people would stop being consumers just for one day so that everyone can Spend the day enjoying xmas with their loved ones.

This is what we are doing this year because I’m tired of spending the day cooking. I won’t however be using disposable platters.

I am saying don't make people work on Christmas!! It's got nothing to do with disposable plates.

^well aren't you high and mighty not using disposable plates. But hey let's just make people serve you on xmas day and keep them away from their family. Yeah. Good for you, idiot.

Why don't you get someone to cater for your Christmas lunch with platters or prepared food you can just cook that morning. Even $500 would get you an awesome spread for Christmas day

We did a prepared lunch last year. Picked it up already cooked on Christmas Eve morning. Warmed a few things up xmas day. No slaving.
Have also done burgers and bbq with salads made ahead. Much cheaper also no slaving

I have friends who have done it and loved it but not at that price. $1000 seems like a lot to spend on lunch with out the benefit of all the left overs that you eat for the next week. If not wanting to spend the day in the kitchen is you aim (and it's a good one) there would be other options like prepared salads, chesse platters, cook the day before so all you have to do is serve or even look for better deals at different restaurants. But having said that, if you are happy to spend that money on a stress free xmas lunch-go for it.
