Toilet training boy....teach them to stand

Answered 5 years ago

My ds was 3 in august and doing really well with toilet training (I’m so proud) but with 2 older sister and a dad that is a shift worker he has gotten into the habit of sitting when going to the toilet
I have tried different games and getting him to watch his dad when he can but he just goes back to sitting
Should I keep trying to get him to stand and wee or just be happy he is going

My 45 year old husband still sits to pee. My son stands. When training him I’d take him outside and pick a flower to pee on to help with his aim. No probs with messes from him.

It’s probably a blessing he sits to be honest. They make a bloody mess . He will stand in time.

My 4yo prefers to sit. He went through a stage of standing a couple months after he was first trained. But then he reverted back to sitting and is happy peeing that way. He stands if he has a wee in the shower or outside on a tree.

SO is 46 and always sits down to wee. He says he doesn't like touching the toilet seat to lift it up (and put it back down) and when he's out and has to wee in a cubicle he uses his shoe to lift up the seat. It is certainly safer sitting when he goes to the loo in the middle of the night!

Have you tried a ping pong ball or cork? My son loved that. But if he’s doing well sitting and happy then no problems :)

It's awesome he's doing well with potty training! If you're concerned, they do have plastic urinals that attach to the side of the toilet. I got one for my son, I can't remember the name at this time. It's small for them so they aren't overwhelmed by the big toilet and no step stool needed. At the end, you just tip it into the toilet and flush. I used to clean it at the end of the day in the tub or use a babywipe and spray.

I wouldn't worry about it. My 4yo still sits, but he wants to learn to stand so during summer he can learn, when everything will dry quicker if we have to clean up lol.

Teach him to hold it down while he pees, more mess if it sprays up at him and all under the toilet seat will pee covered in pee

My sons have always stood, unless they ate pooping as well.
Who cares, as long as they're happy then who cares how they have a wiz? :)

I taught my boys to sit because they were too short to stand to pee. Once tall enough they stood. It’s not a big deal.

Never taught my boys to stand to pee. Always makes a mess that I didn't want in my loo! They are now 34 and 24 and are very capable grown ups who I'm sure learned how to pee standing up before they went to kinder. It's not that big of a deal 😊

My boy sits. I couldn't careless. He's 5 and he'll stand when he's older. He stands when we go camping because it's easy. He doesn't have to aim anywhere. I'll wait till he's older when he's a bit taller. I don't understand why you're so worried??

Also, he's 3. Just praise him for using the toilet, that's huge.

Have you tried a ping pong ball in the toilet? Otherwise I don't think it's that big of a deal. I know adult males that sit when peeing

He will do it when he’s ready, don’t worry. It’s not a habit, it’s just normal. And honestly, you will prefer he sits because once he stands his aim will be bad lol.. My son sat for the first few months and then decided it was easier to stand. Your son will work it out
