Their deliveries come from a warehouse so there's probably a better chance than going in store

Just fyi i ordered with coles & i didn't get the toilet paper - no substitute available so don't think that it's definitely showing up. Can't deliver what they dont have. Get amongst it.

Hi casually arrogant commenter. I could get into the nitty gritty of what things are going on in my life to rebuff your judgemental comment but I can't be bothered with you. I was leaving the information for people who seem to think getting supermarket deliveries is the go to answer here. 🐶 here's a puppy have a nice fucking day.

No, and here's why:
- it's a flu. Not some flesh eating monster roaming the streets. I am a young and healthy woman, the flu does not pose a fatal threat to me usually.
- in the event of chaos and shops closing, I can make do with what we have on hand for several days to a week. After which things would get creative, and my husband would be sent out fishing to provide us with fresh meat (thankfully we live near the ocean).
- why would I purposely feed into this media induced hysteria? It's being taken way out of proportion here in Australia. WE ARE A FIRST WORLD COUNTRY WITH AN AMAZING MEDICAL SYSTEM, AND FIRST WORLD LIVING CONDITIONS. Yes, people might be dying in China, but it's CHINA. The place is..... very different to Australia. At least the part of Australia I'm blessed to live in.
- remember swine flu, bird flu, the 2012 "apocalypse"? You mean to tell me, you can survive all that, but a fucking beer flu (obvs I'm taking the piss since it's named like a lite beer) will wipe us all out? Yeah, okay boomer.
- there are scientists and experts already working on a vaccine. Chill out a bit.
- if I get sick with it and die, no amount of canned food will save me. Sorry creamed corn.

A simple yes or no would suffice. If you think it's stupid that's fine but no need to be nasty about it. Just move on if you don't agree.

REPLY

Oh, I'm sorry. Implying people stockpiling is stupid was not my intent. I was trying to point out how over hyped this all is. If you're more comfortable loading up, by all means do so. Your circumstances may differ from mine, so you do what you think is best. But people need to calm down about this Coronavirus. It's not as catastrophic as the media is playing it out to be. It's a new strain of flu.

Again, I apologise if this came off as rude. I stand by my basic points though. Probably could have worded it better 🤔

So I guess it's weird to me people are only just doing something about it now

I was planning on just listening to the pandemic reports saying just buy a little extra each week so you're ok - 'don't panic buy'.

Now the news sites have gotten hold of it & blown it out, people are going insane & stripping supermarkets so I just hope I can get a litre of milk tomorrow.

Wow when and where was in on the news? Scary stuff. Why things should we be buying? 🙁🙁

Just the experts saying make sure you've got food for a few days if you need to be isolated. 'Don't stockpile, don't panic'.
Saying 'stripping' was probably a bit harsh - I meant anything disinfectant, long life milk etc. are almost empty.

Having lived through the 2011 floods where everyone went nuts even though our city wasn't cut off (it was partially flooded), I've seen how quickly people panic. It's ridiculous.

I always buy powdered milk monthly and about 10 litres of milk a week because my kids drink so much and I have four kids, but I went to woollies and there was no milk at all the other day or milk powder! People really taking this serious

The last couple of times I’ve gone shopping, my usually quiet ( coz it’s shit ) shopping centre has been packed out. Woolies, Coles and Aldi where the busiest I’ve ever seen them. So perhaps people are stocking up. I’m not.

Not at this point. If we start to see more and more cases here then I might reconsider. I’m concerned at this point but not panicking. The only thing extra I did get is my son’s insulin, he’s a type 1 diabetic. He has several vials left but after discussing it with the chemist I decided to go ahead and refill it early. Note: the chemist did not think we were in any danger of drug shortages but when dealing with something as necessary to life as insulin it couldn’t hurt to have a little extra on hand.

Agree with you completely! Our shops were stripped bare and shut by about 2pm cause they were sold out on new years eve, including security and only letting people in 10 at a time.

I will be doing a collection of things to have on hand, we had a collection of supplies for the bushfires then have just used them up since , so no waste, didn't go overboard just thought logically that we might have no power for a week or 2.

Pastas/rice , canned food, toilet paper, medical supplies, extra batteries and a few litres of long life all put away incase we need to avoid the shops for a week or 2

Sorry to add I want to get a few supplies before panic sets in and shops are stripped bare, nothing like going to 3 shops and you can't get bread or milk or any essentials

REPLY

Yes exactly. I think that by going through what we did it was a good trail run for this (silver lining). Dont forget gas for the bbq in case anything happens to the power& we've got reused soft drink bottles frozen with water in our big freezer to keep things cold (power) also for extra water in case that becomes an issue.
