We have a front loader due to space, but there are several reasons why I wish we had a top loader again:
They wash clothes better.
They are quicker.
You can chuck something in once the wash has started.
You can fit more in each load.

I much prefer top loaders i have a 9.5kg one without an agitator. Can fit so much in. Can add things to the wash (realise you dropped a sock etc) after its started. We had a front loader loaned to us for a few months and i hated it. When we bought a new one i only wanted a top loader. However, my laundry isnt that big and id love to put in a bench. If i had a front loader i coukd put a bench all the way along the wall with tge machine below, but i cant do this with a top loader

You can do that with my front loader too if you forget something. Just pause it, wait about 20 second for the door to unlock and pop forgotten item in and resume the cycle.

How much is your water per year ?
Surely your water is not under $300 quarter

REPLY

It about 350-400 per quarter but the majority of that is water rates. We only use about $100-150

Oh my god why does it cost everyone so much? I have a family of 5, water the yard, we all shower every night, plus 10+ loads of washing a week and I only use like $80 a quarter in summer and like $50 in winter.

Our water is always less than $150 every 2 months. 4 people multiple showers and multiple washing loads a day usually. It's doable.

You are aware the majority of your water bill is water rates? The water usage is only a small amount. If you are renting you only pay the usage. Your landlord would be paying the rates that's why some people are only paying $100-150 a quarter, they are probably renting. Also rates vary from area to area just like Council rates.

I just paid our water today, $188 for the quarter. We own our house so we pay it all. Our council actually has some of the highest rates in our area.

Council rates are separate from water rates though. You pay water rates to the water authority in your area and council rates to your council. They are not related. Sounds like you have low water rates is $180 is water usage and rates which is a good thing.
I imagine it differs from state to state as well.

I’m not renting, I own my own home. 5 people in my family. Showers daily, water the gardens twice a week. I do at least two wash loads a day. Have a dishwasher. Never pay more than $150 a quarter in water usage. Usually closer to $100. Oh, and we drink lots of water too!

There's also a huge difference in water rates depending on whether you are on septics or connected to the swerage system. We are on septics and our rates for the whole year are about $150. We own a rental connected to the swerage system and its about $200 per quartar.

I have had both......It took me a long time to be convinced to switch to a front loader. I like the front loader and mine cleans well. I think it is gentler on the clothes but the only thing to be careful of is that seeing as it uses much less water you have to be extremely careful about colour runs, always wash new clothes separately or put in a colour run sheet.
I would say do your research on the particular brand you are going to buy, I checked before buying mine that there were shorter cycle times. Some are extremely long, the sales person explained to me that the longer cycles are actually more energy efficient (which sounds crazy but that’s what she said🤷🏼‍♀️).
You can also load up your clothes at night and set a delay start so that your clothes are ready when you want them to be if you want to use the long cycle,
The shorter cycles on mine are about an hour and a quarter or there’s a 1 hour power wash and a 30 minute quick wash (for items that are lightly soiled)
Hope that helps😊

I have a front loader. The longest cycle is one hour 10 minutes, the shortest is 30 minutes. I think they wash better than top loaders.

Read again. One hour and 10 minutes. That’s a very long cycle.

30 minutes is fine if clothes aren’t soiled. My kids might wear a t shirt after school and then throw it in the wash at bed time. I’m not washing that shirt for an hour.

I put the small, not very grubby clothes in on the 30 minute cycle. Towels, darks, big loads and hubby’s work clothes get at least an hour. Was just saying that the shortest cycle is 30 minutes and longest is 1 hour 10 minutes on my machine.

Have you seen that meme, short Girl problems where she’s practically falling into the top loader? Well that was me so now I have a front loader which I love. My everyday cycle is 59 minutes, but, if you overload it or put too much powder in the cycle goes longer. My washer can say ten minutes left and twenty minutes later it’s still going.
