If a guy buys you drinks, is he coming on to you?

Answered 5 years ago

My partner and I have a difference of opinion.
On a night out he feels it's ok to buy drinks for random people including girls at bars as his intention isn't to hook up with them and it doesn't matter what they think.
My standpoint is that you are giving the wrong impression and shouldn't be buying drinks for people you don't know regardless. Plus girls may feel he is interested in them if he is buying them drinks.

What do you think?

If a guy was buying you drinks during the night would you think he was interested?

I'd be asking why he feels he need to buy random people drinks. Drinks when you're out are so expensive 😂

I agree! I can understand shouting a round for your friends, but randoms is just odd to me.

Which is why it shows that the guy has motives and not just a lot of cash

My husband and I went on a pub crawl together recently, it just kind of happened and was so fun and the amount of men that bought us drinks together as a couple was astounding 🤷‍♀️ I'm pretty sure they weren't coming on to us. I'd be mad if my husband was out at bars buying drinks for single girls too honestly.

It is to hook up.
I’ll put it another way.
I am married and was out with a single girlfriend and a guy asked the waiter to ask us if it would be alright to buy drinks and introduce himself. My friend said no because both of us were not interested in hooking up with a random stranger.

Sometimes people are just nice (shocking in this day & age I know!). If a guy brought me a drink & he was with his girlfriend I would just think it was a random act of kindness. Not everything has to have a sinister motive. People are so dark, distrusting & negative these days. Lighten up. Smile & have enough self confidence to say it doesn't matter to you. He's not going home with them is he? He's with you. Don't push him in the other direction.

It's a bit strange but you're usually happy when you're drinking love everyone & want to make friends- the more merrier sort of thing (at least I am). Maybe you should ask him to ease up because it's making you jealous - that's what's actually happening here.

When I was younger that was definitely the case, my sister still goes out with the intention of leading someone on so they will buy her drinks. If it's friends or part of a group it's fine, my partner and I buy drinks for friends whenever we go out. But just some random that you are having a chat to, no.
