Best Old Fashioned Golden Syrup Steamed Pudding

Hi, I was so looking forward to this steamed pudding, but it turned out so dry. And I am thinking it should only have 1 cup of self raising flour instead of 2? The batter was not runny so had to spoon into basin. I followed the recipe exactly, so is the recipe wrong or is it me. Regards Diane
