Hormonal Acne SOS

Answered 5 years ago

HELP. I've been on the pill since a late teen, I'm 35 and have now had to go off it due to migraines. I am getting horrible hormonal break outs now which were traditionally rare due to the help of the pill. I get peels, micro, light treatment but can not stop this horrible congestion. I eat a clean dairy free diet, no sugar. Various products recommended by salons etc. It'd say it's not bad enough for a doctor to prescribe me something intense for it like some poor teens with bad acne, but it's enough to make me miserable. Anyone been in a similar boat / tried anything? Going back on the pill for hormones / acne is not an option according to Dr.

Hey ladies in the OP I was prescribed Dufferin cream from Dr too. To an extent it helps the big ones but doesn't stop the bumpy congestion. Also my skin feels like q constant oil slick and my hair..even having to wash my hair a bit more as hair line is gross and dirty and scalp is oily and gritty. Bahhh I hate this I want to go back on pull but cannnnnt eeek

Invest in some good face products too!! I use a brand called epicure, it's expensive but it works. Also, make up primer was a big trigger for me. So I've stopped that.

I find I get the bumpy spots when I have been eating a high fat diet. Things like chocolate, or lamb loin chops, both of which I get cravings for.
I really notice the difference after a few days of eating them.
I can squeeze the bumps, and a hard chunk of grease comes out.
If I dont squeeze it turns into a nasty spot, and then I cannot squeeze the fat out. It grips tight to the underneath of the skin.
Like you, my face is soaked in oil, greasy hair and scalp.
I find I have to wash my hair 2 x a week, and I keep tissues, or soft serviettes in my bag, and wipe my face 10 times a day. The tissue is always soaked in grease after I have wiped.

Why can’t you go back on the pill? I used to get migraines a week before my period so my doc told me to use the pill to skip my period for three months at a time to avoid the fluctuations in hormones that occur. When I have my period every three months I get a very mild headache but the migraines have gone.

OP here. I wondered the same but doc told me there is new data to show that there is an increased risk of clots/ stroke being 35+, on the pill and a migraine sufferer. So much so she recommended it's not really worth the risks. I possibly will go seek a second opinion but no do trust her. I've done a little research and info indicates it's migraines with an aura that the data is related too ( I tend to have bad migraine but no aura). Also she said because I've not been a sufferer of migraine, until I actually went on the pill.

Sorry typo, I do trust her, I'm just curious I guess more so because it's costing me a fortune in skin care and treatment etc. Obviously worth it if being on the pill is no good for my health, but just curious O guess.

See a derm, cut back on dairy, wash your face with dish soap (just a drop or 2) at night then use an oil free moisturizer, wrap a fresh towel on your pillow every night for a week

There is a laser treatment specific for acne. It destroys the bacteria that some of us have in our skin that sets off acne outbreaks.
