Well my partner doesn’t want me to wear a Gucci belt. Because it’s $900 and I don’t own one (yet)

Not exactly. He tells me what I "can't" wear. Like he's not going to give me money to buy the item of clothing he finds unacceptable. And since I get most of my money from him (I only recently started receiving ftb) he's very capable of controlling everything I buy. One example is, I love a good pair of boots. But he hates them and as such "you're not getting boots". He even took issue with the rain boots I had and made me get rid of them. Fucking rain boots!
Any time we pass a lady wearing a hemline that doesn't go to her knees or below, he points out that tart over there who must be out looking for cock.
Or any girl with brightly coloured hair is apparently trash and probably trying to go behind her mans back or get attention or she must be one of those lesbians who likes to be fisted (his way of saying she's a whore).
So, whilst he usually doesn't explicitly forbid an item of clothing, he'll make sure I know it looks "trashy" or "whorish" or ugly, until I give in.

However, I've been thinking lately, and have realised that I can wear whatever I want and he can lump it. If he wants to call me trashy, or a whore, or accuse me of trying to get attention, I'll be telling him to fuck off. My birthday is coming up and I'll be buying myself some new clothes anyway. My mum will be sending me money to buy myself something and damnit that something will be what I want. Not what he deems acceptable.

He already sounds very controlling. My husband buys my clothes too, well..... it’s the money he earns that I use to buy them but he never ever puts conditions on it.

Same here.
Op of this comment, that’s a way to control you just so you know.
Buy yourself boots!

Get the hell away from this man. No one can tell you what you can and can't wear. How dare he label other women as tarts and whores. I would 100% guarantee they are a better human than he is.

That sounds horrible. I couldn't be with someone who spoke about other people like that.

Thanks for all the concerns everyone. I know he's controlling and I know I shouldn't put up with it. I've already started standing up for myself in other ways. The boots are my next step. I'm not going to leave him. I love him and we have a beautiful life together. I need to be firm in my own boundaries of what I'll take his opinion on and what I won't. It's something I'm working on. But I do appreciate your concerns ladies.

I personally find it really sad and frustrating how many men think that women make their clothing choices based upon the enjoyment of men (random men out in public, not your husband). No, I did not choose to wear these shorts for your enjoyment and attention I wore them because they are comfortable and I like them. I have only recently become aware that many men actually think every clothing choice is made with the aim of attracting them.

He tells me what clothes he likes but I don’t make my clothing choices on that. I always ask his opinion when I’m shopping anyway. He doesn’t really care what I wear, he’d prefer me with no clothes on anyway 😂

No. But if I ask his opinion on what I’m wearing he always gives me an honest answer.

I have zero fashion sense - and would happily leave the house in a paper bag. So hubby does pick clothing for me - and everything he picks is gorgeous and it means I don't have to think about it.
