There is comfort in routine especially for kids. Knowing what is coming and having a routine to fall back on when things change can decrease anxiety. For example when a away on holiday, keeping to the same bedtime routine. Once a good routine is estabilished they might be able to change one aspect at a time to help get the child used to change and build up resilience.
