Helping family communication - need your feedback!

Answered 3 years ago

Hi all, I thought I would come here asking for your feedback on something I’ve been working on. First, some background:

>I feel very close to my extended family even though everyone lives far away from each other.
>Communication can sometimes be challenging as older family members don’t feel comfortable using technology (you should see my dad trying to use his iPhone…).
>I’ve always found large social networks too open and not respectful of user privacy
>My grandparents barely use the internet and often feel left out from what’s going on in the family

About 2 years ago, my housemate and I decided to grasp the nettle to build a platform that makes it easy for families to communicate in a meaningful way so we built KinSnap. KinSnap is what Instagram would be if it was a private family app, inclusive of older loved ones. Users share their photos and comment into a private family group, KinSnap then takes all the content and automatically formats a personalised journal, prints it and posts it to your older loved ones, every month or fortnight.

It is subscription-based, A$16.99 per journal sent every month. One family account accommodates up to 40 participants, the subscription fee can be shared amongst members and everyone gets the pdf for free every time a new journal is generated.

We launched a few months ago in several aged care homes in Victoria and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. We are now focusing on our ‘self-served’ channel and this is why I’d love to hear what you think about the concept.

What do you think of the idea? What about the pricing? If anyone is keen to try I’d be happy to give you free access so you can get your hands on the paper journal and see the reaction of your older ones. I’d love to hear about your feedback after that!

I know it can look a bit direct, I am not trying to sell our service. I’m just trying to get some honest feedback from the community and ultimately to solve a problem I believe many would benefit

What a brilliant idea! Pricing seems reasonable to me.
