Answered 4 years ago

Would you do it? Would you be offended as a parent if your adult offspring did it?

Adults who are precious about their birthdays are the worst. You are not 5 years old. Your birthday is not that important.

My parents were overseas on holiday when their grandchild was born. I told them when he was due and they still planned to be away then as it was most convenient for their schedule. I wasn't insulted. It's their life.

Have done it. Have had it done to me. I am not offended but some of my family embers have been. Despite me living in another city to them. Honestly, I don’t think the world should revolve around you because it’s birthday.

I have a work related holiday coming up and I’ll miss my sons 14th bday. I’m upset. He’s upset, but I can’t not go. I’d hate to miss my kids birthdays while they’re young but I wouldn’t care if anyone missed mine.

Yes. If we tried to skip around every family birthday, anniversary & occasion & fit in with work leave availability, school hols etc. we'd never go. If it was important we'd already know it was coming so would definitely work around that.

I'd do it, and I wouldn't be offended if others did it. We aren't going to plan our holidays around birthdays.

Just to add, if there was a milestone birthday I'd ask them if they were planning anything, and consider that when travelling, but if it really didn't fit, we'd organise to see them another time.

Yes we have done it and will do it again. No i wouldn't be offended if they did. We have 5 kids. Our youngest is 13 and oldest 26 and the ones in between are over 18. Everyone is so busy doing life so we kind of wing it. We hardly ever have all of us in one place together but when we do, it's pretty special 💜
