Dyslexia - Help!

Answered 4 years ago

I am sure my 8 years old is Dyslexic, but im unsure where to start in terms of diagnosing and getting the best help for her. I am speaking with her teacher today about it, but could use info about any services/assessment tools/schools/anything that may be helpful, i am in WA and am a (broke - due to Covid) single parent, im worried she is going to fall through the gaps and if i can even afford to get her diagnosed! Waaaa! Any help will be gratefully received.

My daughter was diagnosed at high school. We already had her tutored for it. To get special help for her VCE it was all too hard. I explained to her that life isn’t about a number on an exam. She is wonderful at art and digital communications. I am encouraging her to go into digital communications she will be amazing at that.

My daughter was diagnosed at 7, we went privately through a psychologist, it cost around $1000. She has a specialist tutor once a week and is slowly catching up. You can request your daughter gets assessed through the school so speak to the teacher and see what they say, and find out what extra help the school has available.
