Pathology question
Answered 5 years ago
I want to have some blood work done for my own curiosity, I’m not sick. Can I just go to a pathology place or do I have to go to a doctor first? I don’t mind paying for it.

You can only get blood work done with a doctors approval. They have to do the forms and signs for it after all. But they will do a basic healthy check for you if you need one done. You do have to pay for blood tests these days though.

^ ummm, it depends on the test and the doctor. Some tests you do need to lay for. Not all are bulk billed.

Vitamin D check was included in my full blood test. Didn’t pay a thing.

You have to go to the doctor first to order the test and they’ll usually do thyroid, vitamins, just like a full blood count.

You will have to go to a doctor. You want full bloods, double check what the doctor considers ‘full bloods’ to make sure they are doing all the tests you would like done. If they want to exclude/include any tests, ask why? doctors aren’t always free (the best rarely are) but the blood work should be free

I went to a new doc for a thyroid test. She asked if I wanted a full check up. I said yes please. She tested for everything listed in an above comment. Easy. You don’t have to be sick, just say you want a full check up. Doc will do it. My doc bulkbills. You don’t pay for blood tests.

You need to go to your doctor. Just say you are wanting a full check up and a general health check. Ask for a thyroid check, liver and kidney function, cholesterol and blood sugars etc. not unreasonable request.
