Are you going to a rally for black lives matter?

Answered 4 years ago

I’m not- for several reasons which my friend says means I don’t support the cause. I do support the cause entirely I just don’t do crowds due to anxiety and panic attacks and I don’t trust that they will be peaceful. I’d love to take my kids to help educate them but don’t think it’s safe.

No. I grew up in Townsville and look what just happened 4 teens in a stolen car and that is normal for them to break into houses , cars , starting fights. I don’t get paid to go to school I went so I could get a good job and work for what I have . The government gives them money houses programs and the don’t care to better themselves.

We also have out of control youth in our town. Over 20 cars have been stolen this week alone. It won't be long until we are in the news for a group dying in the same way😥

Im not going but i wish i could! I just cant risk Covid, my little 4 year old has all sorts of issues and her life is too important to me. What is worrying me though, is while i fully agree with BLM and that change must happen, so many Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islanders turning out for these events is a MAJOR risk to all their lives! Especially if people from the more remote communities travel down for the protest, the could potentially go home and wipe out whole communities :( i just hope that this dosnt happen, imagine how many black lives we could lose if things go wrong!

But i totally get why they feel like they must attend, but shit, i hope it dosnt back fire.

I support the cause, but no way would i risk covid 19. Ive decided to put a ‘Black Lives Matter’ sign in my front window, (like the rainbows and the bears) to show my support and to get imy children involved. We will make it today and i will use it as a learning moment to talk about the movement with my kids.

No I wouldn't protest for black lives. I do believe black lives matter, and believe it's an important issue, but not something I would put myself out for. Perhaps when black people protest about protecting themselves and us against black violence I do the same for them.

I think the whole thing is getting out of control! Now hollywood is pulling movies from the screens like gone with the wind - there may be some racist content, however, its depicting what it was like at that time - maybe it would actually help if people watched it and were 'shocked'

It’s not copying, it’s supporting and using the atrocities over there and the subsequent movement to effect change here, we are all conected.

This man certainly shouldn't have been killed, but he was a criminal with a long rap sheet. He certainly was no hero like hes being made out to be! 4 black cops were killed during the riots and looting- what about them??? They are more the heros and they deserve to be recognised.

Yes, of course. The black lives matter movement isn’t saying only they matter. They are saying they matter too. Just as much as white people. Yellow people. Brown people. It’s about equality.

Then maybe they need to change their slogan

Saying that you're non-supportive of a cause due to not going to a protest/rally, is like saying that you can only pray if you go to a church. Your friend is a dunce.

I didn’t go. It’s not just the Covid risk for me, I wouldn’t go anyway. Rather than going into big crowds I just donate what I would have spent on petrol, parking, lunch and water to worthwhile charities. An extra $$$ from those of us who want to support the cause but don’t want to get caught up in the hype goes a long way.

ANSWER

No, not going, and your friend is a bit of an over-opinionated idiot to claim you don't support a cause just because you don't go to a rally that could very-well get out of hand and become dangerous.
