Does your teenager play soccer & wear a mouth guard if they have braces?
The orthodontist gave us one that’s a bit bulky and uncomfortable.
I’m wondering if it’s worth getting a better custom made one. If he played nrl or afl or rugby union it wouldn’t be an option, I’d have one made.
I’m just not so sure with soccer.

My 13yo has braces and plays competition netball and basketball without one. It's against my wishes but you're right. The are so bulky and awkward. I'd rather her enjoy her sports than arguing every time to get her to wear one. The question is are you prepared for what may happen without one. 💚

Wow, the refs check for mouthguards before they're allowed on court to play basketball, it's compulsory here in NZ

When my boy played footy and soccer his club could send you to the orthodontist to get one custom made. It was discounted through the club. I think it was about $50 which is totally worth it especially if you’re already spending thousands trying to give him the perfect smile.

There are many available at the sport shop for orthodontics. Get one he's comfortable with. Getting hit in the face is way worse with braces. The inside of your mouth ends up like mince meat

Personally when I played soccer with my braces I didn’t get a mouth guard made and I didn’t have any issues but if your child must wear it or will actually and is feeling uncomfortable and it won’t be a huge waste of money (by not using) then it may be a good idea
