Dealing with Mount Washmore

I don’t know why scientists are wasting their time taking photographs of stars in far off galaxies or splitting the atom when they could be working on a machine to fold my washing.

Surely, if the greatest minds on the planet focused on this significant domestic problem, we could have it licked inside a decade.

Mount Washmore is the enormous pile of clean washing awaiting folding in my house. It is located in the laundry, on the couch, on my bed, in the spare room and on the floor, but not so much in the wardrobes. And you know what? Truth be told, it’s more of a mountain range.

Albert Einstein coined the phrase ‘The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results’. Well, by Albert Einstein’s definition, I am straitjacket, padded room insane. Every day I and set out to conquer Mount Washmore, only to overwhelmed by the sheer enormity of the task. It’s madness.

I’ve considered hurtling the unfolded clothing into the wardrobes as is, just to see if the family notices. They would, of course, only not because it wasn’t all folded but because it would be the last place they’d look. You know things are bad when on a Monday morning, instead of looking in the cupboards for school uniforms, the kids go rummaging through the clothes pile on the lounge.

But I guess I should be thankful the scientists got the automatic ironing machine sorted before they began playing with rockets.

Yep, I’ll just go and hit the ‘Go’ button on the dryer again. Gosh, I love science.
