A tortured toddler fought for his life after suffering horrific injuries. Now, Bobby, the Brave is making an incredible recovery.
Bobby Webber was only seven months old when his uncle, Andrew Nolan abused him for four hours at a home in Central Coast in NSW in September 2014, leaving him a quadriplegic and with cerebral palsy.
Mr Nolan, who was engaged to the sister of Bobby’s mother and had been a family friend for 12 years, had been babysitting the boy while his parents, Elise and Barry Webber, went to the Gold Coast on their honeymoon. The boy’s two older sisters Gabrielle, 11, and Olivia, six, were at the movies with their aunt Casey when the abuse happened.
Bobby suffered multiple skull fractures from blunt force trauma, with blood pooling in his eye from being shaken so hard, fractured vertebrae, a bruised genitalia and bite marks on his body. He spent two months in hospital suffering multiple seizures and being fed by a tube. He was left with severe brain damage that doctors told his parents to switch off his life support several days after the attack. However Bobby, who is now known as Bobby the Brave, refused to give up and miraculously kept breathing.
Mr Nolan was arrested and charged with grievous bodily harm with intent, a month after Bobby was abused. However, Mr Nolan initially denied the attack when Bobby was on life support in hospital. He even stayed by Bobby’s bedside as he fought for his life.
Now two years old, Bobby is continously making progress and is recovering despite facing several health issues from the attack.
Mr Nolan pleaded guilty to the charges in February at Gosford District Court on the same day Bobby celebrated his second birthday. He is now awaiting his sentencing next month.
Bobby’s family has now relocated to western Sydney to be near the Nepean Hospital and Mrs Webber is now Bobby’s full time carer.
Friends of the family have set up a GoFundMe page to help raise money to assist the family with ongoing therapy equipment, medication and medical costs.
