I was thinking of using ikea kitchen and paying to have it installed. Using the oven and stove from exisiting kitchen (a bathroom is going where current kitchen is.)

I've just seen an ikea one installed last month. It's ok, was a quick install, but you can tell it's not fantastic quality. The benchtop is a wood look but it's textured so has a grooved surface to 'feel' like wood. Please avoid that one as I can see lots of food & grime building up in those grooves & looking disgusting. Yuk.

Don't go IKEA. They are really crap quality. Go for a Bunnings kitchen if wanting new. You can often get 2nd hand kitchens for super cheap or even free off gumtree.

We did ours earlier this year and it was $18 000. It was a completely new kitchen in a new room in the house. Stone benchtops and polyurethane painted cupboards, island bench, in-bench sink. New oven, stovetop and dishwasher but kept out existing fridge. That included plumber and electrician.

Nope I definitely paid $18. We shopped around for a good deal, didn’t do fancy cupboard inserts besides soft close on the drawers, didn’t pay to remove an old kitchen and my husband did the ceiling cornicing around the top cupboards as well as attach the kick boards once he had laid the floating floor around the new kitchen. We didn’t t go for fancy appliances either - learnt my lesson after a German dishwasher broke years ago and parts had to be shipped from Europe.

SHould have added splash back was a basic tile and grout job - but I’m really happy with the end result. Also didn’t change the lighting - the island bench was pretty much under the existing light fitting and the only other light is in the range hood.
