I wrote the original comment. When I said “ back to normal”, I meant the kids are now back at school, my husband has recovered and is back at work and my dog is all better. For me things are back to normal. Public transport is back, work is back, school is back, shops are open, I can travel to my favourite destination and I can hang out with my friends. That is normal to me.

Sorry, that was meant to go on my comment thread and was aimed at the person telling me my life would never get back to normal.

^ but all those things we are doing differently. Shops are open, but we aren’t shopping the same. Schools are open, but kids and parents have had to adapt to changes there too. I think all those changes are permanent. I also I think as time goes on we will see even bigger changes Particularly when it comes to international travel.

REPLY

For some people, the changes are very minimal compared to others. My family personally has not been greatly impacted at this point in time. I know of other people however, where this is affecting their lives significantly. It all depends on peoples lifestyles and probably their expectations too

REPLY

^ well obviously it depends on your circumstance. But when you think about the long term implications including the economic ones the impact is going to be lasting formal of us.

What do you mean shops are different? I can still go into Coles and woolies and buy whatever I want whenever I want. The only difference is there is a plastic screen up at checkout and someone isn’t standing up my arse. What do you mean schools are different. My kids two schools are running exactly as they were before the virus. My husbands work never stopped so no changes there. For me, things really are back to normal.

At my kids’ school, no assemblies, no sport carnival, no parents on grounds, no canteen (except online ordering) staggered recess and much . Maybe the assemblies and sports will come back but not any time soon.

I thought all schools had made similar changes

I’ll tell you how shopping has changed for me. Someone meets me at the door, makes me sanitise my hands, points to the wipes and tells me to wipe my trolley. I have limits on some things I can buy, some things that I used to take for granted I can’t buy at all (disinfectant, soap, flour, eggs, tomato paste, baked beans are all things that are regularly sold out at my woolies so now I have to go to 3-4 other supermarkets every week to get what I need when I used I shop just once a week at one supermarket). I have to make sure I’m always 1.5m away from other people. I sanitise my hands after touching door handles (eg freezer) . I’m packing my own green bags because I haven’t used plastic bags in years and as it slows the process I’m dealing with the wrath of shoppers behind me, so I’m considering switching to plastic. Yeah it’s dramatic alright but I didn’t choose it. If all that’s changed for you is there is now a screen at the checkout, then I’m very pleased for you.

To the lady who wrote the huge post about how shopping has changed, what state do you live in? I’m in WA and a few weeks back I was in the same boat as you but for the last four weeks I haven’t had to deal with it. Sometimes there are wipes at the door but usually there isn’t. No staff greet me at the door. Restrictions have been lifted. I find all the items you are struggling to find. The shelves aren’t empty anymore. I’ve never noticed people being on top of each other so social distancing isn’t an issue. It just sounds like you’re describing the very early weeks of the pandemic rather than now. But, I know, all states are different so we may have it very different from each other.

REPLY

^ I’m in regionaL WA. I’m not describing how it was in the early days of the pandemic, which was way worse as far as trying to get what I needed but now. I’m actually did my shopping today and that was my exact experience. I’m glad not everyone is struggling to find what they need like I am every week.. It’s a pain in the butt.

REPLY

If i may chime in? Today i was shopping in Perth, couldnt find anything i needed, the shops were full of people, not socially distancing. Massive ques. Went to Kmart, shelves stripped. It has given me a very uneasy feeling, i thought we were getting some sort of normal back, but it seems im wrong, also saw lots of people buying bulk, like whole trolleys full of oil, or milk, water, toilet paper - things are weird out there

I’m in the southern suburbs and I have had no problem shopping. I go anywhere from success down to Rockingham and surrounds. Shops not too busy. I always find what I need. I haven’t had to wait in long queues either.

Try to lose another 10kg. I was 98kg at the start of the year, I have dropped down to 89kg and would love to get down to 79kg. My long term goal is to get back to 70kg. I know the Drs recommend someone of my height to be about 60kg, but I think I looked way to skinny when I was that weight. I like girls with a bit of meat haha. And apparently so does my partner who sooks when I tell him I've lost another kilo 😂. He is amazingly supportive but 💞

Calorie counting. I found an app on my phone and have been logging everything I eat, measuring everything and just trying to eat better foods. I think my biggest killer was hubby and I would always make food at like 1am and eat in before going to sleep. And it wouldn't be little snacks either, it was full on meals lol. But just making a small change this week then another small change next week and adding them all up had equaled to losing 10kg 😊

I was supposed to go on a holiday in April. In January I started my new health and fitness regime. It was awesome, I stuck to my goals and was looking good. Then this virus happened and it all stopped. It was too hard to continue with home schooling, sick husband and a sick dog. Now everything is back to normal I plan to get back on track. Rescheduled my holiday for October ( fingers crossed it goes ahead) so now I have my new goal.

Actually I'm the so called hermit that lives by the beach. Im not in WA and I don't know who wrote that other reply. We grow all our own food (vegetarian) so don't have the need to travel into town very often. We haven't been there for 6mths. We run our business from home and do almost everything online. I'll have to take your word that things will be different :)

^ do you ever travel by train, plane? That will change. Ever eat out? The way you do that will change. The way we shop at supermarkets has already changed And it’s not going back to the way it was. Maybe you don’t leave your property for 6 months at a time but when you do you will have to adapt. I’m not staying my opinion, this is what experts are saying.

Partner still working. I’m still working. We can’t afford plane travel. We do drive destinations. Catch the train but that is normal. We don’t dine out because I’m an awesome cook. Still see our friends. I still shop at Coles and target. Nothing has changed for me. I think some of you panic and overthink stuff too much. Aren’t we supposed to be onto our second wave by now according to media?? Hasn’t happened has it? Stop being paranoid and live your life.

REPLY
^ not panicking, not paranoid. Im not giving you my opinion. I’m stating fact. You must live a very sheltered life if you can’t see the changes that are happening. Great that this has has little impact on you. For most people the consequences have been huge and will be lasting.

And yeah, we will get a second wave. We will get clusters and outbreaks. It’s just a question of when.

Covid19 has affected every country in the world (not sure about Antarctica though) and almost every single person in one way or another. It's the levels of impact that are different. For some very little, others severe. One person can't tell another whether they have been impacted or not

REPLY

You are being paranoid. And as someone said this has impacted people in different ways. Hasn’t affected me at all. I even found loo paper when I needed it. You don’t know a second wave is coming. No one knows. Experts are ‘thinking’. They can’t predict the future. So live life for now, don’t be scared of what might be.

REPLY
^ I am living my life, and I’m certainly not being paranoid. Just thinking realistically, and more people really should be taking this more seriously . I really do hope I’m wrong about a Second wave because it will be devastating for the country. But I can see the writing on the wall already. The first wave is going to have long term effects for all of us in one way or another, I’m not sure why you think you’re immune to it. Its not just the way we do things like shop (ok, not the way you shop apparently) eat out, travel but the effects this is having on the economy. It will take many years to recover from this.

She’s right tho, it’s unprecedented. We don’t KNOW what will happen. Currently on maternity leave. My main goal is to return to work in my current position initially, then to find a new job closer to home. Current job requires an hour travel each way. Think I’ll need to do a short course or 2 to up skill before applying for a new job. Once I’m not wasting so much time commuting, I’ll work on more personal goals like increasing my general fitness and creating healthy habits for the whole family.
I also have some more personal and marriage goals I’m working on, but at the moment they’re a bit vague to be able to articulate enough to share.
