What are your thoughts on intermittent fasting?

Answered 5 years ago

Started a couple of weeks ago and love it. Have lost weight and feel amazing. Sleeping a lot better and saving money as I tend to snack a lot on crap. My first meal of the day is around 11. I have coffee before this so I can function. No more food after 7. I drink a lot more water to hold off hunger pains. I find myself making healthier food choices as I know I have to sustain myself for a longer period.

I'm not a fan. I make bad food choices when hungry and gained weight when I tried this. Smaller regular meals helped me to lose weight.

Can you explain it? Because I usually don't eat until I finish work, and that's my dinner, and in usually starved, and I always have done this and never lost weight, if anything I've put on more.
Dinner is around 6-7pm though.

If you're starving it's not good your body will store fat.

If you're starving your body will lose weight because you're starving yourself! Ask people in Third World countries dying from starvation

Not eating slows the metabolism and because your body is not using the required energy for your cells, you will not burn off the weight unless your body taps into burning off the adipose (fatty) tissue and that's only if you are being very physical. Now if you look at the lifestyle of third world, it's extremely different to ours. If interested look at telomeres and the metabolic cycle

If it’s sustainable long term, sure. You should probably consult a dietician or other health professional though. For me, it’s a no. I used to fast intermittently and it really messed with my metabolism. I think it’s why I have thyroid problems now.
