I was disappointed with this one, do you add anything extra to yours?

Strawberry bread sounds good. I'll search and try. The person above commented that it wasn't great. Did you do anything different/extra to the recipe? Thanks

Im the person above, if anyone has an idea to make this one work, let me know! I so want it to work, but i found it to be totally crap, it was bready with strawberries in it, not strawberry flavoured like a bannana bread in bannanary, ive thought about adding strawberry jam to the mix to solve this problem, but havnt tried it yet

Nothing particul. Just oven, no pre cooking on stove before putting in oven. My stove is broken atm.
Are they grouped together?

No they're not, but if you type oven recipes into the search bar there's quite a few that come up!

The caramel popcorn - I added chopped nuts and it was great. People loved it so I did jars of it for Christmas gifts.

The pastry free beef and cheese pie is great. And I make the faster pasta a lot. I’ve put my own spin on both of them as time has gone by but the base recipes are good.

Steak Normandy is a winner for my lot. They love it.
Sour cream quiche is easy as and pretty tasty.
Honey mustard chicken is good. I cook it in a cast iron pot that weighs a tonne and it comes out good.

The ham and cheese savoury muffins, but i add mixed herbs otherwise they are a bit bland, also add chilli flakes at other times too.

The breakfast muffins are good too, but i also add extra dried fruit or whatever i have available.

The chicken nuggets with cornflakes are good.

The frugal choc slice is pretty good too, as a basic, cheap sweet something and you can always ‘pimp’ it up too if you want.

Egg and bacon pies

Cornflake biscuits

Corn fritters -i serve them with a relish

Milo balls

The bannana bread (the one where you line the pan with foil) i feel is good, but for some reason i always fail at it! Think will give it another go today 🤞🏼

No worries, keep ‘em coming, im ready for a new cook book of you guys please 😊, more vegetarian recipes, slow cooker, kids lunch box snack-y things and grown up snack-y things too would be great.

Also the Fruit Salad Cake is good and so simple, cheap and great if your down to nothing, ive made it with a tin of cherries before and added cocoa, coconut and chocolate icing and called it Cherry Ripe cake and everyone loved it, can also do this with a tin of apples and cinnamon makes a great Apple Cake.

Honestly, I find the recipes here fairly blah. I admit I've only tried a handful, but they've been consistently subpar.

Each to their own! The recipes section is the most popular section on our website, but we understand not everything will be to everyone's tastes. We've received awesome reviews for most of them. Which ones haven't you enjoyed? (Just for our own understanding).

Thanks for taking this as an opportunity for feedback SAHM Staff. I wrote this and immediately thought I was being too harsh. Perhaps these recipes are best off used as a base, then obviously each cook can just add their own flair to it. That's a better way of thinking about it.
I don't remember each one (I've been lurking on this site since DLS was a baby) but I recall being disappointed in the rumballs, one of the slices (it was either caramel, or weetbix), and something with meatballs (possibly porcupine meatballs?).
However, as I just said, if I were to go back and look at them again, I'd use them more as a guide than a finished dish. That's probably something most cooks do, but I'm slow af at figuring cooking shit out (I'm always reluctant to stray from the written rules).

Thanks for your feedback - no you weren't too harsh! Yes we definitely agree that most of our recipes are more of a base to be added to, and that is quite intentional. We want them to be as easy as possible and then it's up to the cook to add extras as they wish. Many of our recipes have also been submitted to us by our readers, and we just publish them as is. We have so many recipes on the website that we know not everyone will like all of them, and we are ok with that. If ever you (or anyone) cooks a recipe and thinks it needs something or is missing something, we appreciate an email or a comment. Thanks again and we hope you do find something to enjoy eventually :-)
