What do you think about having your baby boy circumcised?

Answered 3 months ago

My first child, a boy, is due next week, and I am trying to reach a decision on whether or not we should get him circumcised (like his dad) or leave him natural (like most of his mates will be)?
I have looked into the health benefits, and can see there are some worth considering. I can see why it would be nice for my son to be like his dad. I just worry about how painful it is and wonder what the healing process is like. My husband is very pro-circumcision, and so that is partly why I think we will probably get bub circumcised.
If you got it done, how happy are you with your decision?

  • My son isn't / won't be circumcised

    64%
  • My son is / will be circumcised

    36%

You wouldn't do that to a girl would you? So why do people feel it is okay to physically wound a baby boy? Sorry but that is abuse and should be classed as abuse. That baby or child has rights. The right not to be held down and snipped with out a say is one of them.

Absolutely agree!!! Unless medically necessary it is genital mutilation.

Not necessary. Totally should be criminal to inflict pain and injury onto an innocent child. Let them decide when they are older it is their body!

Why do people think because they are boys its ok? Its not okay for any child to be mutilated.

It's a personal decision. We did research, spoke to doctors etc. We decided against it as we couldn't see the benefits & docs all said risks were minimal & circumcision still carried risks. We felt strongly that without a solid reason we didn't have the right to alter to DS's body. We don't judge those who do, though.

I got harassed & pressured, called multiple times a day by my parents when DS was a newborn 'to just say their piece again' because 'it's just what you do', but couldn't give a reason why. To the point I refused to speak to them for weeks. It was very hurtful.

So do some research & make your own decision. Not on if he looks like dad or his peers. Don't talk publicly as you'll get hammered by both sides. Either way your child will be fine & it's no one's choice but your own.

Do what YOU want, not what the Karens of the world tell you to.

We had all three of our sons circumcised and have no regrets at all. Definitely the right decision!

When my son was born, we kind of went for circumcision, as it was the norm in my partner's family as well as my own family. It was just what we were used to, and so we got my son done as a newborn. It was a very easy procedure and he healed in about a week and it looks just fine.
Since then, I have become more aware of how much of a minority we are, so I have qiestioned myself over whether we really needed to do it. Still, we are expecting another boy, and we have decided that he will be circumcised like his brother. It just feels right for us to stick with what we know, and I wouldn't want my boys ever thinking why me and not my brother or the other way round! Lol

I think it is a very personal decision, and there is no easy answer when you think of the many pros and cons.
That said, I was like you and had my two year old son circumcised as a baby, mainly because my partner wanted it done. It was scary taking my son to have the procedure done, but thanks to the local anaesthetic, he didn't even cry during it. It did look red and sore for a few d
